The sacred rituals of a nikah are no longer a big secret, thanks to the Hindi films. But usually, when one says nikah, a traditional wedding ritual with elders of the family conducting it is what comes to mind. But Zahra and Muf’s nikah is as unusual and fresh as the groom’s name here! Yes, with an adventurous proposal, a Spanish-themed brunch, a sangeet night that rocked everyone, a traditional wedding ceremony and a classy reception, this was a hatke wedding that brought rituals and trends of different countries together.

And how the two met is a hell of a story here. Zahra, who is a fun loving and chirpy girl, born and brought up in Mumbai and Muf, our debonair groom who was born in Canada but raised in Dubai, went to the same Warwick University to study but never met each other or crossed paths. It was a meeting arranged by a friend where, in their first date itself, the two hit it off so well that various rounds of wine for 7 hours and no food brought them together.
But before we tell you more about their awesome wedding, we have to tell you how Muf proposed to Zahra. He knew that she didn’t want a cheesy proposal because she herself had told him so a couple of times. So, he planned a treasure hunt for her where the proposal team set up a hunt all within Dubai and one clue led to another.
In the words of the bride:
‘’The proposal crew made me solve puzzles and gather clues and move from one place to the next all over Dubai, something inspired by The Amazing Race. When we got to our final clue, I found myself standing on a pier in the middle of the ocean with the Burj to my right and open waters to my left with a box in front of me that had a ring and a note that said “Will you marry me?” He made me work three hours all over Dubai to get proposed to but it could not have been more worth it”.

Coming to the grand wedding celebrations, the couple hooked in one of the best wedding planners in the country- F5 Weddings, to make their nikah a dream come true, and that was totally what it was- A Fairytale! While they were originally looking at Jaipur to be the venue for the wedding, they finally decided on The Leela Palace, Chennai. Its location by the sea and it being away from the city along with its modern day palace feel is what made it the perfect one.
The first event was a welcome lunch organised for the guests with a colourful décor, which was traditional too with pinks, greens and orange in the colour theme. After the lunch, the guests got busy dancing and having a fun time.
Then it was time for the cocktail which was an English-themed affair. From bartenders flown in from Dubai to rustic bird hangings on tree branches, it was one rustic-themed night.

The next day was the much awaited Spanish-style brunch, which was named ‘Viva La Fiesta’. Here, Zahra wore a beautiful white and blue floral gown while Muf chose to keep it semi-formal with a pink shirt and dark pants.
It had a board outside, which asked people to tag pictures under the hashtag #ZufWedding. The women were welcomed with tiaras and the men with hats.
The best part was the couple’s entry on a colourful tricycle, and the bar backdrop with quotes that were boozy in every sense and people had a good laugh.
Guests truly relived their childhood memories by playing games like live Jenga along with funny photo booths and the Jelly shots bar (as the couple named it).
And when the morning event was so amazing, the evening had a higher expectation to fulfill. For the sangeet night, Zahra wore a heavily embellished pastel gown and Muf looked dapper in a navy blue and white bandgala.

The stage set for the evening was one of the grandest we have ever seen with 1000 bulbs, set up on 40 feet stage, a walkway with about 10000 roses with huge cutouts of ‘DANCE’ set for the photo shoot backdrop. It was a Bollywood-style function, with dance performances by the couple and their family and friends. The guests present danced away till the wee hours of the morning and within a few hours, it was time for the nikah.
And, it was a sight to remember! F5 Weddings made sure that the best venue that the property had to offer was chosen for this auspicious occasion. The Chess Garden was beautifully decorated and all the guests were welcomed with jasmine bracelets, rose water showers.
An amazing feature about all the functions was that the wedding guests were always kept in mind and little gestures were done to make them and their stay a fun-filled one.
And just like a North Indian wedding, the groom dressed up in a beige sherwani entered the venue with dholwalas, while the pretty bride who wore a pink heavily embellished outfit entered with the soundtrack of Din Shaguna Da Chadiya under a phoolon ki chaadar. The nikah ceremony went on for an hour and was enjoyed by one and all.

And finally, the wedding reception was a sweet, simple and classy affair with wedding speeches and toasts. This function marked the end of this big fat wedding festivities, something that not only the couple, but everyone present at the event would remember for a lifetime!
