Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan’s love story perfectly proves that Cupid works in the strangest ways. It had struck both Hrithik and Sussanne at a traffic signal, when both of their cars were going parallel on the same road, alongside. Hrithik looked to his left and saw a beautiful lady in the driving seat and lost his heart to her. At first, they had pretended to ignore one another, however, they say, if two people are meant to be with each other, they will find each other! And the similar thing had happened between Hrithik and Sussanne. Both, Hrithik and Sussanne had confided in their friend, Kunal Kapoor to share the traffic light incidence, and we believe it was a sign enough that they were meant to be.
When Sussanne Khan had appeared on Neha Dhupia’s chat show, BFF’s With Vogue, she had recalled the time when she had first met Hrithik in the 90's and had said:
“That’s when I explored, studied, went to LA and came back when I met a superstar boy who was not a superstar at that time, but was one in my eyes when I met him. But before this I didn’t realize I didn’t have any interest in the film world. But destiny gets me back that way. I love the films and the industry, but I am so happy being where I am in my profession.”
After a chance meeting at a traffic signal, Hrithik and Sussanne had met at the engagement party of the actor’s sister, Sunaina Roshan. He was stunned looking at Sussanne in the party, who was rocking her traditional attire. Soon, they became friends and Hrithik did not shy away from expressing his feelings for Sussanne. In order to woo Sussanne, Hrithik used to write letters and poems for her, even if they didn’t rhyme. Hrithik Roshan is 1974 born, whereas, Sussanne Khan is 1978 born.
Despite the age difference of 4 years between Hrithik and Sussanne, their hearts had started beating for each other. Soon, they had started dating, and Hrithik wasn’t even a star then. It is said that Sussanne had even paid the bill on their first date as Hrithik wasn’t earning. This had impressed Hrithik even more!

In one of the episodes of Koffee With Karan, Sussanne had revealed that Hrithik had proposed to her in a different manner before proposing to her for the wedding. She had revealed that the duo had gone out for a coffee date one evening when they were close friends. While she was having her coffee, at the end of it, she had found something in her glass, and it was nothing else than a ring. It was an eternity band, which was more like a promise ring to them and Hrithik had then asked her if she would love to be with him forever. Sussanne was highly impressed and had immediately said, ‘Yes.’
Hrithik had later, proposed to Sussanne for the wedding in the most adorable manner. He had already turned a writer for his ladylove and had penned a special note for her. On Simi Grewal's show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, a glimpse of Hrithik’s letter for Sussanne was shown, where he had confessed his love for the gorgeous lady. His note could be read as
"Dear Sussanne, Hi I hope this letter finds you in the pink of hunger. I just wanted you to know that I love you very very much and that I'd want to live my entire life with you beside me. Will you? If yes than turnover, if no than eat your food."
The other part of the letter could be read as
“Hi! Good choice! You’ve just won yourself a faithful heart. Lots of fun, excitement, passion, luxury (tentatively) good company, and a very very happy, WONDERFUL Life! (a few sad times too) –all starting right after I finish my meal Thank you your soulmate (by choice) Rye.”
Hrithik Roshan’s debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in January 2000 had made him a star overnight. He had a huge female fan base, enough that once, on The Kapil Sharma Show, Hrithik had revealed that he had gotten more than 30,000 marriage proposals after the release of his debut film. While his female fans were running after him, his heart was already captivated by Sussanne Khan. Hrithik and Sussanne had tied the knot on December 20, 2000, breaking many hearts. Since Hrithik is Hindu and Sussanne is Muslim, their wedding was neither in Hindu style nor a nikaah. They had exchanged their wedding vows in the presence of their family and friends.
Once Hrithik had described his wedding as
"We had neither a Hindu ceremony nor a nikaah. Actually, both of us had always wanted a church wedding. I've always been inspired by them, I've seen them in films! Church weddings look so lovely, so short and sweet. We had something very close to that in Bangalore. The pool in Golden Palms is the biggest in Asia and right in its centre is something like an island. There's a bridge extending from there to the edge of the pool. The bridge acted like an aisle for us. We walked down the entire stretch, went to the centre of the pool, stood there, took our vows and signed the register. It was even better than a church wedding. It was so special, so different!"
Hrithik, who was always in praise of Sussanne had once shared in an interview with Simi Garewal:
“Anybody who says that nobody’s perfect, didn’t get a chance to meet my wife Sussanne.”
After six years of married life, Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan had become proud parents for the first time with the birth of a baby boy. It was also reported that Hrithik, who has always been a doting husband and father, had agreed to give 380 crores in settlement to her. Two days after the reports, Hrithik had broken his silence and had rubbished them to be rumours. On his Twitter profile, the actor had written:
“Fabricated news articles. Demeaning my loved ones. Testing my patience.”
Before Hrithik Roshan had issued a statement about their divorce, Sussanne Khan had moved out of their house with their children and was living with her parents. A lot had been said about Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan’s breakup/divorce. From Hrithik Roshan’s affairs to Sussanne Khan’s affair, many new angles about their divorce were published online, however, the truth of their divorce remains between the couple only.
Earlier, in an interview with Femina, Sussanne Khan had said that she and Hrithik had divorced because they did not want to be in a "False relationship." She had said:
"We had reached a stage in our lives where I decided that it's better we weren't together. It was important to be aware and not be in a false relationship."
In a 2017 interview with CNN IBN, as Hrithik Roshan’s linkup rumours were supposed to be the reason for his divorce with Sussannne Khan, he had addressed the infidelity rumours and had said:
“Absolutely not. Sussanne has been very very vocal about this. She has been very vocal. And I feel like laughing at people. When people get divorced, it is not always because of infidelity by the man. That is just such a small-minded assumption.”
Hrithik had then shared that there can be many reasons for people opting for divorce rather than infidelity. He had added:
“So the general assumption was, 'Ah he is the superstar, he must have done something wrong. She must have caught him.' That is not the case.”
Hrithik had further shared that even after the divorce, he and Sussanne are still great friends and the reason for their divorce is between them. He had said:
“The reason that we decided to live separately may have been an inspiring reason, how do you know?"

Hrithik Roshan’s name was linked with many of his co-stars that it was assumed that his affairs might be the reason for his divorce with Sussanne Khan.
Kareena Kapoor had worked with Hrithik Roshan at the beginning of her career in films like Yaadein (2001) and Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003). It was reported that Bebo (Kareena) was totally smitten by Duggu (Hrithik). There were rumours that both, Hrithik and Kareena had developed feelings for each other, in spite of the fact that Hrithik was already a married man. The repercussions were such that Hrithik’s family had to intervene and had asked Bebo to maintain distance from the star. However, in a bold throwback interview with Filmfare, the Chameli star had shared about their possible fling:
“Please give me a break. I am neither besotted with married men nor will I have affairs with them. Married men would be detrimental to my career. Ask the producers, directors and distributors why all of them are hell-bent on signing Duggu (Hrithik Roshan) and me together. Quite obviously because we are a hot pair. So there."
However, to put an end to this, Hrithik and Kareena had decided to not sign any more movies together.
The relationship rumours between Hrithik Roshan and Mexican beauty, Barbara Mori were strong and was a hot topic of discussion. Their rumours had picked more mileage after their sizzling chemistry in the film, Kites (2010). Hrithik and Barbara had probably taken their reel-life relationship to their real-life as well and thus, had ended up hurting his then-wife, Sussanne Khan. Rumours were rife that Sussanne was so disturbed by the relationship rumours that she had left the Roshan’s house and had started living with her parents. When Sussanne was asked about the same, she had shared:
“Rubbish. Everything is fine. But yes, Hrithik and I are very upset with the story of our so-called split. Nobody can break my marriage with Hrithik. We are together. Our relationship is very strong.”
Hrithik was also asked if linkup rumours with Barbara had affected him, and he had replied:
“Why should it bother me? I’m a happy man with a happy family. And Barbara is a great friend. There is no need to react.”
When the rumours about Hrithik and Barbara’s affair had started, Rakesh Roshan had issued a statement, saying that Sussanne had left because their house was under renovation. Soon after the film was released, Sussanne and Hrithik were again spotted together and the rumour mills were put to rest.
The relationship rumours of Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut still create a stir on social media on and off. This one began, stayed and ended before anyone could know, or probably believe! Kangana and Hrithik had met each other while filming, Krrish 3 and had started dating. When they were dating, Kangana had often shared in the open that she had found “true love”, but had never revealed the name. As per reports, Kangana and Hrithik had shared many tender moments and the latter had also written poems and proses for her. The Agneepath actor had also proposed to Kangana in Paris. In an interview, Kangana had shared about her then-beau, Hrithik and had said:
“He is probably the nicest person you'll ever meet. He's Mr. Goody Two-shoes. He is not one of those men who would use slangs or implied words to seem macho or "cool". If you have a good-looking person around it makes the day more beautiful. He is very shy as a person. He is very grounded and attentive. That makes him very approachable. He comes across as someone who has problems and who can understand yours."
Soon, things had gone downhill and their relationship had ended. They had an ugly spat in public, with Kangana being extremely vocal in the show, Aap Ki Adalat, as to how difficult Hrithik had made things for her. In a 2016 interview, she had shared:
“Yes, many lame rumours are doing the rounds, even a dumb ass can tell where these rumours are coming from. I don't know why exes do silly things to get your attention. For me that chapter is over and I don't dig graves.”
After this, Hrithik Roshan had retaliated, saying that he would rather 'date a pope' and the legal notices from both the parties suing each other have been going on since then.

As per a SpotboyE report, the duo had met on the sets of Bang Bang and became quite close to each other. Both Hrithik and Katrina have always remained tight-lipped about their alleged relationship, but their linkup rumours had not gone down well with Hrithik’s then ex-girlfriend, Kangana Ranaut. In an interview, Kangana had once opened up about the Hrithik-Katrina affair and had shared:
“He was shooting in Manali with some actress, when stories of his affair reached me. So I asked him, it was Valentine's Day in February, I asked him, 'You didn't call me, nothing?' So he told me, 'Phone, about what?' I asked, 'It's Valentine's.' So he said, 'Why would I call you? I asked, 'Why would you not call me? I am going to marry you.' So he said, 'Forget marriage, who all have you spoken to about our affair?'"
Sussanne Khan’s growing closeness with her friend, Arjun Rampal was also stated to be the reason for her split with Hrithik. However, now, Arjun is dating model, Gabriella Demetriades and Sussanne is rumoured to be dating actor, Arslan Goni.
A lot of people had claimed that Hrithik and Sussanne had decided to split because Sussanne was apparently getting close to the actor, Arjun Rampal. But, Arjun had told the media that he came to know about the couple’s split at the same time as the media. He had said:
“Mehr and I wish them only peace and love through these times, and support them as friends should and we wish them and their families well, always. It is very sad when friends close to you take a decision to separate. These are the hardest times for them and we must be sensitive towards this decision, rather than creating speculation and rumours.”
Well, currently Sussannne Khan is rumoured to be dating budding actor, Arslan Goni, brother of Aly Goni. The two are often spotted partying together and cheering for each other on their professional accomplishments. As per a report in Pinkvilla, Sussanne Khan is in a relationship with Arslan Goni, and she has been spotted with Ekta Kapoor's gang time and again because of her growing closeness with the Jia Aur Jia actor, Arslan. Their brewing camaraderie has become the talk of the entertainment industry. According to the report of Pinkvilla:
"They have known each other for more than six months now. They met through common friends from the TV world. But recently, the two have gotten close. It's evident from their body language that they are more than just friends. Arslan & Sussanne Khan often hang out together with their common friends from the TV industry. Considering that Sussanne went through heartbreak with Hrithik Roshan in 2014, she has been taking things slowly."

In an interview with India Today, Hrithik's father, Rakesh Roshan, was questioned about his son and daughter-in-law, Sussanne Khan’s separation. He had politely replied:
“My wife and I want Hrithik to be happy and at peace with himself, no matter what. My blessings are with Hrithik. Whatever he does in life, my wife and I want him to never change. He's kind, helpful generous. He deserves happiness.”
When Sussanne Khan's father and veteran actor, Sanjay Khan was repeatedly asked about his daughter's decision to end her 17-year-old marriage with Hrithik, he had said:
“Like any other normal couple they also have some issues. Just because Hrithik is a superstar, doesn't mean he will not have personal issues. They both are intelligent and wonderful people. It's just that they need space. Of course this is not a closure. They respect each other. To resolve issues, may be this is what they thought was good.”
Sussanne's mother, Zarine Khan, whom Hrithik adores and addresses as 'mom', too was quizzed about her relationship with him. Almost two years after her daughter's separation, Zarine had said:
“We have been friends since years. He is the father of my grandchildren and we are bonded for life. We are truly bonded and we are happy with the most innermost circle. I feel that family is with you in times of stress and happiness, so you have got to be together all the time.”
Well, often the news of Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan getting back together hit the headlines. Their cutesy banter on social media instils hope in their fans’ hearts, however, the two have denied the idea of being together again. They have always maintained that they are great friends even after divorce. Despite all the ups and downs, Sussanne has always been by Hrithik's side as a support system. Hrithik in an interview with Filmfare had spoken about his relationship with Sussanne post-divorce. He had stated:
“I share a wonderful relationship with Sussanne. She’s been and still is a huge part of my life. Just like me, she’s someone who’s constantly striving to be a better human being. It’s nice when people tell me that our relationship is inspiring for them. At the same time, it’s sad that it’s rare for separated couples to find a peaceful, happy and healthy equation. That should change. We must all strive towards a better understanding of the world, a better understanding of ourselves.”
Talking about her equation with Hrithik, Sussanne had told Bollywood Hungama that Hrithik is her support system. She had said:
“I have a support system in Hrithik. It’s not a marriage, but we are friends. That zone is so sacred to me, it doesn’t make me feel sad or lonely. My kids are go-getters. They organise things."
Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan's love story and divorce had given a great lesson to everyone on how one can be cordial even after living both the best and worst phase of their life with someone. We just hope that Hrithik and Sussanne continue to provide their children with equal attention and love in the long run.
