Aishwarya Rai became a fan favourite since her debut in 'Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya.' But director, Rahul Dholakia recently revealed that her actual first film didn't even release. Here's why.
Beauty with brains, Aishwarya Rai secured a massive win when she was crowned Miss World in 1994. Not only did the stunner make the entire nation proud, but she also catapulted herself into fame with the achievement. Just three years later, in 1997, Aishwarya made her acting debut in both Hindi and Tamil cinema with the films Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya and Iruvar, respectively. However, director Rahul Dholakia recently made a shocking revelation. Aishwarya was supposed to make her Hindi cinema debut in a completely different film that didn't even release!
Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia recently sat down for a podcast interview with Mashable India's director, Mukhesh Chhabra. And during the chat, he made an interesting revelation about B-town beauty, Aishwarya Rai's Hindi cinema debut.
For the unversed, Aishwarya entered the world of Bollywood with the 1997 film, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. While the film failed to impress critics, fans fell head over heels for Aish’s beauty, grace, and acting chops. However, according to director Rahul, Aishwarya was supposed to debut in an entirely different film with Suniel Shetty. That film was titled Hum Bacche Hai Ek Daal Ke.
Needless to say, Hum Bacche Hai Ek Daal Ke was never released because the film ran into problems early on in production. And Rahul, who was handling its production, lays the blame for the same on the director.
Revealing that lead actor, Suneil had specifically requested his help with the production, Rahul said:
“Suniel had asked me to handle the production. It was directed by Shashilal Nair and Rahul Gupta was the producer. I was handling the production for that and one thing I learned was what a director shouldn’t do.”
According to Rahul, the Hum Bacche Hai Ek Daal Ke team had wanted the very best unit and crew. So, Rahul arranged for the Independence Day action director to join them. But he revealed that the director’s arrogance was on ‘another level’ and that wasn’t taken kindly in America. Talking about the director’s unrealistic expectations, Rahul said:
“He wanted to shoot an action sequence at the Grand Canyon where boulders fall and wanted the boulders to be the size of a room. He asked for 1000 boulders of that size, and when he was asked how many takes he would take for that scene he got offended. Half of the time would go into these things, so I learned from that production that one should not be unreasonable, and think ahead.”
What do you think about Rahul Dholakia’s revelations about Aishwarya Rai’s first film, Hum Bacche Hai Ek Daal Ke?
