'TMKOC' is the longest-running sitcom in the history of the television industry, but the absence of 'Dayaben' has now grown to displease the viewers.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a crucial part of every 2000s kid's core memory. It became a pivotal part of their daily routine, and they grew up with every passing episode, relating and learning from the members of a society that was inspired by the immense knowledge of the writer, Taarak Mehta. However, as the show grew and years passed, several cast members said goodbye to the show, but there was one that left the viewers most heartbroken, it was the absence of Disha Vakani's character, 'Dayaben' from the show. While viewers never got a proper farewell from the actress, the hopes of her return went stale after years of her absence.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah once again made it to the headlines when the news broke out that the makers had finalised a replacement for Disha Vakani's character, 'Dayaben'. While News18 reported that Disha's replacement was locked and the mock shoots for the show had begun, another portal shared that actress, Kajal Pisal would be the new 'Dayaben'. Nonetheless, the actress denied the rumours, leaving the question about 'Dayaben's' return wide open once again. Amid this, the maker of the show, Asit Kumar Modi, has finally shed some light on whether the actress will return to the role or if they have found a replacement for her.
In a conversation with SCREEN, the producer, Asit Kumar Modi, reacted to the news of 'Dayaben's' comeback to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. He revealed that while viewers have eagerly been waiting for the return of 'Daya Bhabhi', he understands and agrees that the show is not as enjoyable without her. He added that they, as a team, have been trying to bring her back. Asit was quoted as saying:
"People have been eagerly waiting for Daya Bhabhi, and I will finalise her soon. People say that without Dayaben, they don’t enjoy the show as much, and I agree. As a team, we are trying to fill Daya Bhabhi’s absence as much as we can. But she will return soon."
In the same conversation, Asit Kumar Modi also addressed whether Disha Vakani will return to the role. He shared that they can only pray that she decides to return. He called her his sister and admitted that the actress had been busy with family duties, which made it harder for her to commit to the show. Asit further acknowledged how sincere and kind Disha was towards her co-star and the team. He was quoted as saying:
"We can only pray that Disha Vakani returns as the character. She is like my sister, and she has some family duties to fulfil, which is why it might be difficult for her to return. We miss her even today. She was very sincere and caring towards her co-stars and the team. We hope to find someone just like that."
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been running successfully for 17 years, and Disha Vakani was a key part of the show. Her unique voice and remarkable acting skills make her extremely difficult to replace. However, she exited the show almost eight years back in September 2017 after she was pregnant with her first child. Disha took a maternity leave to enjoy motherhood. However, she never returned to the show again.
