UK's PM, Rishi Sunak, celebrated Diwali with his family by lighting up diyas at his residence and attending an aarti ceremony at a temple. He also received special gifts from the MEA, S. Jaishankar.
Diwali is celebrated with much enthusiasm and joy all around the world. Indians living across the world donned their festive attires and lighted up their homes with diyas and lamps to celebrate the festival of lights. Among all the celebrations, one of the highlights for us was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak’s simple yet elegant celebrations with his family.
The British PM, Rishi Sunak took to his official Instagram account to commemorate his 2023 Diwali celebrations. He captioned his post with a best wishes message and mentioned how special it was to celebrate the festival of lights with his family at 10 Downing Street in London. He penned:
“A special moment for me to be celebrating Diwali with my family on the steps of No.10. Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating here in the UK and around the world!”

In the pictures, Rishi Sunak is seen along with his beloved wife, Akshata Murty and daughters, Krishna and Anoushka, lighting diyas outside their residence. His daughters looked adorable in vibrant traditional attires, whereas Akshata Murty had donned an elegant, minimalistic blue saree.
After the celebrations at their residence, the UK’s PM, Rishi Sunak, was also spotted joining Diwali festivities in his hometown of Southampton. He accompanied his family to the Vedic Society Hindu Temple on Radcliffe Road for their aarti ceremony.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister, his wife Akshata Murty, their two daughters, and his parents joined the worshippers in lighting candles and offering prayers. Rishi Sunak addressed:
"It is wonderful to be back home in Southampton. I have so many happy memories of my time here as a kid. This was the place where the values my parents raised me with were reinforced, the importance of family, faith and service, education and hard work. Looking around, I'm inspired there is a whole new generation raised with those same values."

On November 12, 2023, External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar met with the UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, at 10 Downing Street. During the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed Diwali wishes from the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
S. Jaishankar was accompanied by his wife, Kyoko Jaishankar, and presented the British PM with an idol of Lord Ganesha and a cricket bat autographed by cricketer, Virat Kohli. Jaishankar shared photos of the meeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He captioned the post as:
"Delighted to call on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Diwali Day. Conveyed the best wishes of PM Narendra Modi. India and the UK are actively engaged in reframing the relationship for contemporary times. Thank Mr and Mrs Sunak for their warm reception and gracious hospitality.”
