And one such celebrity is Dream Girl, Hema Malini. She has always mesmerised us with her beauty and is only turning gorgeous with each passing day. A trained classical dancer, Hema Malini had made her debut as a dancer in a Tamil film. It was in 1968, when she had made her Hindi film debut with the film, Sapno Ka Saudagar and mesmerised the audience with her amazing screen presence. Born to a Tamil-speaking Iyengar family, Hema Malini had become the Dream Girl of Bollywood in the 70s. From movies like Seeta Aur Geeta, Sanyasi, Dharmatma, Pratigya, Sholay, Trishul and many more, Hema ji’s contribution to Bollywood is remarkable. The South Indian beauty had tied the knot with the Punjab da gabru, Dharmendra in a nikaah ceremony in 1979. Considered as one of the most iconic on-screen couples of the 70s, Hema ji and Dharmendra have set major off-screen relationship goals too. Married for 40 years now, Hema ji and Dharmendra are blessed with two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
A dutiful wife and a mother to two gorgeous girls, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, Hema Malini dotes on her family. As the Dream Girl turned 72 today, we stumbled upon a few unseen pictures of her with Dharam ji and daughters, Esha and Ahana. In the first and second picture, Hema ji is pictured with Dharam ji as they had looked completely lost in each other. In the third picture, Hema ji had posed with Esha and Ahana from their dance performance and the fourth is a monochrome picture from a film’s set, where Hema ji and Dharam ji had shared a hearty laughter.
In her autobiography, Hema Malini: The Authorized Biography Book by Bhawana Somaaya, Hema ji had revealed that she had gotten attracted to Dharmendra because he was strong and silent just like her mother. She had also revealed that he still looks at her the way he did in their first meeting. In an interview with a leading publication, Hema Malini had stated that it was the song, Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana, wherein she had fallen for Dharmendra. She had also revealed that it was his cute dance moves in the song, which had made her fall in love with him immediately. It is also rumoured that while shooting a particular scene in Sholay, Dharamendra had lured the light boys with money to disturb the lights on the set. It's been almost forty years of Hema ji and Dharmendra ji’s happily married life. In an interview with the Deccan Chronicle, Hema ji had talked about her decision of marrying Dharmendra. She had shared that she had never wanted to hurt anyone because of her love, not even his first wife, and hence, she had never intruded in their life. The Dream Girl had proudly stated that she had never taken Dharmendra away from his first wife and children. In her words, “The minute I saw Dharam ji, I knew he was the man for me. I wanted to spend my life with him. I also wanted to make sure that the marriage hurt nobody. His first wife and children have never felt my intrusion in their lives. I married him, but I never took him away from his first family."
Hema ji and Dharmendra ji's intimate wedding was a traditional Tamil ceremony, the way she had always imagined. In an interview with Rediff.com, the actress had talked about her equation with Dharmendra ji's first wife, Prakash, and had shared, "I didn't want to disturb anyone. I am happy with whatever Dharamji did for me and my daughters. He played the role of a father like any father would do. I guess I am happy with that. Though I have never spoken about Prakash, I respect her a lot. Even my daughters respect Dharamji's family. The world wants to know about my life in detail, but that is not for others to know.
