Sanjay Dutt had tied the knot with his first wife, Richa Sharma in 1987. We stumbled upon an unseen throwback picture of Sanjay and Richa from their wedding reception.
Sanjay Dutt needs no introduction! Born into a Punjabi family to superstar parents, Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt, Sanjay was born with a silver spoon. He had made his Bollywood debut in 1981 with the film, Rocky and had become an overnight sensation. Sanjay’s charm was such that he had enjoyed the attention of a lot of female fans. Many leading actresses of Bollywood couldn’t stop themselves from falling in love with this handsome actor.
Even though Sanjay Dutt had multiple affairs, the handsome hunk of Bollywood had lost his heart to the gorgeous actress, Richa Sharma. Sanjay and Richa had met during the mahurat of a film they were doing, but he already had a massive crush on her as he had seen her photographs in a magazine. After being turned down for a couple of date proposals, Richa too had reciprocated to Sanjay’s love. After convincing her parents, who were settled in New York, Richa and Sanjay had tied the knot in 1987.

We recently stumbled upon an unseen picture of Sanjay Dutt and Richa Sharma from their wedding reception. In the picture, Sanjay had looked handsome as he had donned a black suit, white shirt and matching bow tie. On the other hand, Richa had looked gorgeous in her pink saree and gold jewellery. The newlyweds, Sanjay and Richa could be seen posing with Sanjay’s father and veteran actor, Sunil Dutt, who looked quite happy.
Sanjay Dutt and Richa Sharma’s marital life was bliss and the lovebirds were blessed with a daughter, Trishala Dutt, doubling their happiness. But the happiness didn’t last long as Richa was diagnosed with a terminal illness of brain tumour. Richa went to the US for medical treatment, while Sanjay juggled between India and the US, courtesy his professional commitments and personal life. Sanjay's linkup with his Saajan co-star, Madhuri Dixit had made it to the headlines and its flames reached New York to his wife, Richa. This instigated Richa to fly back to Mumbai with their daughter, Trishala, but her medical condition had deteriorated by then.
On December 10, 1996, Richa had taken her last breath in New York at her parents’ home. There were many stories that Richa's terminal illness was the reason behind their divorce. In a throwback interview in 1993 with Movie magazine, Sanjay had reacted on the same and had stated, “These accusations are false. I'm not that kind of a man, who stops loving his wife if she loses her hair. These allegations are made up to evoke a reaction from me. The kind of encouragement I have given Richa, I don't think anybody else has.”

In the same interview, Sanjay had even slammed Richa's family for their divorce. In his words, “My marriage with Richa is over. We cannot get back together again. I've got nothing against Richa but her parents have damaged our lives. They interfered too much. They have hurled so many accusations at me. Basically, it's her (Richa) sister, who's doing all the talking and has created a lot of bad blood between us. So, it's a problem between a husband and a wife. If there have to be some compromises, it has to be between Richa and me. Who the hell is she to interfere?”
Sanjay Dutt has always been controversies’ favourite child. Be it his alleged involvement in drugs and possession of illegal weapons or his multiple affairs, Sanjay has always garnered a lot of limelight. Speaking about his Casanova image, Sanjay had once admitted that he had been in more than one relationship once but was never caught as he had managed things well. Talking about the same with a leading daily, Sanjay had stated, “I was in three relationships at one point of time… You need to be clever... one shouldn't know what is happening with the other.”
Sanjay and Richa had surely looked like a match-made-in-heaven in this throwback picture!
