One of the most controversial personas, Uorfi Javed opens up on some of the most traumatic unheard tales from her life!
Uorfi Javed is one such name which quickly makes it to the headlines courtesy of her controversial and out-of-the-box fashion picks. But, while she is mercilessly trolled for her sartorial picks, she gracefully converts them into compliments and comes out even better and bold. And now, for the first time, she opens up on the unheard tales of her life.
Uorfi always had the seed of experimenting with fashion in her life. However, she was not allowed to leave her home beyond the usual clothing expected of a small-town girl. In an interview with The Humans Of Bombay, Uorfi opened up on her life as a 17-year-old in Lucknow who fought back against the restrictions to dress up in a certain way and therefore left home for Delhi. In her words:
“Growing up in Lucknow, I did not understand why I was stopped from dressing a certain way. I was mentally and physically abused; I even tried comitting suicide but in that one moment, I decided to give my life a second chance.I ran away to Delhi. I was just 17.”

Well, there is a vast difference between the thought of living independently and, after that, actually living it. While Uorfi quickly left her home in Lucknow, life was never a bed of roses for her. Further in the interview, she revealed that after landing in Delhi, she had to take up odd jobs and even work at a call centre to sustain herself. After that, she revealed she never lost hope and thought about giving Mumbai a shot to try her hand at acting or modelling. She mentioned:
“I began taking tuitions to support myself. Later, I started working in a call center. Soon, I decided to go and try my luck in Mumbai. I had no money or place to live so I used to stay at my friends’ houses. I did odd jobs, giving interviews and even gave auditions.”
Compared to any other girl of her age who enjoyed happy family life, Uorfi, on the contrary, had an opposite fate. Moving further in the interview, Uorfi recalled the main reason apart from not fulfilling societal expectations behind her leaving Lucknow. She mentioned how her father was abusive to the extent that she always felt suicidal. She even mentioned a time when her father hit her so badly that she was rendered unconscious. Moreover, her father also wilfully abandoned her and her mother. However, it was much later, after she got well-established in her life, did she reconciled with her mother and returned with her.

After landing in Mumbai and giving a few auditions for smaller roles here and there, luck finally struck Uorfi, and she got selected for a minor role in a television serial. Post that, she also got the chance to star in the popular reality show, Bigg Boss OTT. In her words:
“After a brief period of struggle, I cracked a TV Serial, and then tried my destiny in Bigg Boss OTT. But I was evicted within a week.”
While Uorfi and fashion seem to have been closely associated with each other recently, she spilt beans about how she landed in a world of experimentative fashion. Calling it an output of having no work at hand, she also revealed how this choice of hers did not sit well with the audience, who began to take a dig at her. In her words:
“With no job in hand, I began experimenting with the things I was best with—clothes! It didn’t sit well with the people. The world trolled me and called my choices rubbish and weird. I was questioned about my morality and character. But not caring about faceless people’s opinions on the Internet, I kept embracing myself and expressed self-acceptance through my choice.”
