Upasana Singh fondly recalled her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan on 'The Kapil Sharma Show.' She also recounted that the actor refused to call her 'ugly' although it was in the script.
Bollywood actress and comedian Upasana Singh has had an illustrious career over many years in the Hindi entertainment industry. She has worked with some of the biggest names in Bollywood, but the one star she never got the chance to share the screen with was Shah Rukh Khan. Nevertheless, the legendary actor and Upasana did come together during an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show. Recently, she reflected on the experience and recalled how Shah Rukh had very cutely refused to call her ugly despite it being a part of the script.
Upasana Singh recently sat down for a candid chat with Siddharth Kannan, during which she reflected on her working experience with Shah Rukh Khan. She noted that while she worked with nearly all Bollywood stars, Shah Rukh was the only one with whom she never shared screen space. However, Upasana got to work with the iconic actor on The Kapil Sharma Show, in which she had a recurring role as 'Twinkle,' 'Kappu's' neighbour and an old friend of 'Dr. Mashoor Gulati.'
Upasana fondly recalled the experience, narrating a particularly cute incident when Shah Rukh refused to call Upasana ugly despite it being part of the script. Upasana elaborated on the conversation between Kapil Sharma and Shah Rukh, stating that the former had explained to the actor that he was supposed to insult Upasana. She further recounted:
"Matlab mere toh aap ko pata hai na kya tha ki ye toh humari baap se badi umar ki hai, iski shakal kesi hai, iski aankhein kesi hai, ye bilkul hi sundar nahi hai. Or iske pehle mene saare ache ache, khubsurati wale hi role kiye the ki arre kya lagti hai. Toh woh bolte hai ki main isko kyu bolun ki ye batsurat lagti hai. Itna cute. Bolte hai Upasana main tumhe kese bolun tum aisi lagti ho."
The 1989 film, Maine Pyar Kiya catapulted Salman Khan and Bhagyashree to fame overnight and has since gone down in history as one of Bollywood's most iconic films. Thus, it may come as a surprise to many to know that Bhagyrashree wasn't the first choice for the female lead. Yes, you read that right. Upasana Singh was initially chosen for the role. She elaborated on the same, revealing that while filmmaker, Sooraj Barjatya was impressed by her, his father, Raj Kumar Barjatya, was not. Upasana recalled:
"He told me everything about the film, my role. And he selected me. After that, he said that you come tomorrow and meet my father but from my end, you are okay. The next day, I met his father and he rejected me. They are very sweet people so he did not say rejected but they did not call me again."
While Upasana never spoke about the incident considering it a failed opportunity, Raj Kumar Barjatya once shocked everyone on the sets of Main Prem Ki Dewaani Hoon by revealing that Upasana was the first choice for 'Suman.' The film producer also confessed that the reason they had passed on Upasana for the role was because she was taller than Salman.
Upasana Singh quickly became a fan favourite with her comic timing on The Kapil Sharma Show. However, the actress stopped appearing on the show once it migrated to Sony from Colors. In her conversation with Siddharth Kannan, she opened up about the reasons behind her stepping back from the show and revealed:
"Kapil was trying to crack the role of main lead. He also said that let me get out of all his, then I will do it. It was during that time that Kapil and Colors had some friction. My contract was with Colors and I did not have a contract with Kapil's team. So when Kapil moved to Sony, I couldn't because I had a contract with Colors."
