Urvashi Rautela Says Sushmita Sen Asked Her To Give Up 2012 Miss Universe India Crown, 'Boss Was...'

Urvashi Rautela, who represented India at the Miss Universe competition in 2015, recalled why she was asked by former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen to give up her crown in 2012.

Urvashi Rautela is back in the news again. The model-turned-actress, who represented India at the Miss Universe pageant in 2015, predominantly works in the Hindi film industry. Urvashi has been a part of projects like Sanam Re, Hate Story 4, Pagalpanti, Kaabil, and many more. The 30-year-old often garners the limelight due to her antics, and audiences often take her claims with a pinch of salt. Recently, the actress made some intriguing revelations about the former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen.

Urvashi Rautela recalls how she was asked by former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen to give up her crown in 2012

In an interaction with Mirchi Plus, Urvashi recalled how she was asked by Sushmita Sen, who won Miss Universe in 1994, to step down as the winner of Miss Universe India in 2012. Back then, Donald Trump used to co-own the Miss Universe organisation, and Sushmita Sen’s company was in charge of selecting representatives from India as Femina Miss India had given up its rights. When asked about the incident, the actress said that she was unaware of the pageant's age limit. In her words:

“When I won Miss Universe India for the first time in 2012, there is an age limit for Miss Universe… Our boss was Donald Trump. The age limit was 18, even I didn’t know that I was 17 after I won. I was 24 days short from the age limit.”

Further in the interaction, Urvashi said that Sushmita Sen straight up asked her to give her crown due to the age limit. The actress shared her dejection and said that back then, she felt like the biggest loser. Urvashi also added that she had questioned the age limit rule as her efforts had all gone in vain at that time. Moreover, at around the same time, she debuted in the film industry. Talking more about it, Urvashi mentioned:

“Sushmita Sen told me that ‘Urvashi, you can’t go…’ At that point, I felt like the biggest loser of my life.”

Urvashi Rautela shares how other participants thought she was the judge of Miss Universe India competition in 2015

However, Urvashi again participated in the Miss Universe India competition in 2015 conducted by Miss Diva and passed it with flying colours again. The actress recalled the day when she entered the venue for the audition and revealed how the other participants thought she was there to judge. She said that none of them wanted her to participate in the competition. In her words:

“All the girls there, they did not want me to participate. And I could actually feel that because there was this entire group and I was all alone.”

Urvashi Rautela says people questioned her decision to participate in Miss Universe India competition again

Urvashi said that, in order to achieve dreams, people need to fight against all odds. The actress further added that she left films just to win the title again and further participate in the Miss Universe beauty pageant. She recalled how people used to question her regarding her decision. She said:
