Tollywood diva, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar's husband, Nicholai Sachdev proudly added her name to his, as he talked about preserving her legacy forever.
Indian actress, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is one of the prominent names in the South film industry. Daughter of veteran actor-turned-politician, Sarathkumar, she has been an irreplaceable part of regional language films in Tamil, Telegu, Malayali and Kannada. Varalaxmi made her debut with the Tamil film, Podaa Podi back in 2012 and ever since, hasn’t looked back on her career. In her personal life, the diva got married to eminent Mumbai-based gallerist, Nicholai Sachdev in March 2024.
Glimpses from Varalaxmi and Nicholai’s dreamy wedding have done rounds on the internet, and it screams nothing more than sheer love. And now, as per a recent report quoted by India Today, the diva’s husband announced something super-special, that again proves his love for his most beautiful wife. While attending a press conference in Chennai, Nicholai revealed that he doesn’t want Varalaxmi to change her name after their wedding, and add his surname to her name. He said:
“She [Varalaxmi] said that she wants to change her name after marriage. Of course, she'd never lose Sarathkumar in the middle, but she wanted to add Sachdev to her name. But, I will not have that.”

Continuing with the line of thought, Nicholai then spilled beans on reversing customs and added that he will, with pride, add his wife, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s name to his. The gallerist mentioned that he wants to be known as ‘Nicholai Varalaxmi Sarathkumar Sachdev’. Furthermore, he added that he wishes his daughter’s name would also be made in the same way, thereby preserving both Varalaxmi and her father, Sarathkumar’s legacy. In his words:
“She will always remain and retain her name as Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. I will be taking her name. I will be known as Nicholai Varalaxmi Sarathkumar Sachdev. And so will my daughter, so Sarathkumar and my wife Varalaxmi's legacy will live on forever. That's what I am going to do for my wife.”
Towards the conclusion of the press interaction, Nicholai Sachdev jokingly expressed that while Varalaxmi got married to him, her first love would always remain acting. Moreover, he asserted that his better half would continue to work towards her passion, acting, even after marriage, and there would be no question of her quitting films or taking breaks. Nicholai mentioned:
“I've known her for many many years. She may be married to me, but I'm not her first love, I'm not her favourite. Movies is her only love. I come second. From tomorrow, she will continue acting. There are no breaks.”

A few days back, Varalaxmi took to her IG handle and dropped the first-ever official pictures from her wedding with Nicholai, which took place in Krabi. The actress turned a traditional South Indian bride, in a red Kanjeevaram saree, that had embossed gold embroidered motifs all over it. She teamed it with a simple red-blouse, that had gold-toned butti work and floral embroidery near the sleeves.
To complete her look, Varalaxmi accessorised herself with traditional jewellery pieces, including a sleek kamarbandh, a choker, a layered neckpiece, maang-teeka and matching hair-chain earrings. On the other hand, Nicholai wore an ivory-kurta, paired with an ivory veshti.
