Kumar Gaurav was once engaged to Rima Kapoor, but he parted ways with her. Back then, his alleged affair with Vijayta was blamed for his broken engagement.
Rajendra Kumar’s son, Kumar Gaurav, was once regarded as one of Bollywood's handsome hunks. His dapper looks could make the ladies go gaga. Once, he was engaged to Raj Kapoor’s daughter, Rima Kapoor, but their engagement was short-lived. For some reason, the couple parted ways shortly afterwards. Back then, Gaurav also dated Vijayta, who was blamed for his broken engagement with Rima Kapoor.
In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Vijayta revealed that she fell in love with Kumar Gaurav during the shooting of their film, Love Story. She recalled how Gaurav was madly in love with her and that he would keep following her. However, Rajendra Kumar did not approve of their relationship, and he would often tell his son to marry a princess and stop meeting Vijayta. In her words:
“Bunty (Kumar Gaurav) was very fond of me; he would keep following me, holding my hands and dancing… he used to be a very charming boy. But his father and the film’s producer Rajendra Kumar was very angry over our relationship. He would drink alcohol and tell Bunty, he was his prince, and that he should marry a princess."
Vijayta also revealed that Rajendra wanted his son, Gaurav, to get married to a girl from a reputed family, which left the actress scared. However, Bunty (Kumar Gaurav's pet name) always had a clash with his father on this topic, and he would openly express his love for Vijayta. The actress mentioned:
"He said he will find his son a girl who belongs to a reputed family. When I used to hear all this, I used to be so scared, but Bunty would retaliate and tell his father that he loves me; they used to drink together and argue; I used to try and get away from this situation.”
She claimed that though Rajendra saw Gaurav was head over heels in love with her, he still decided to get him engaged to Rima Kapoor. However, despite the engagement to Rima, Gaurav had promised Vijayta to marry. He used to visit Vijayta's house and continued their affair. Recalling her conversation to Gaurav, Vijayta said:
“I even attended the ceremony, I saw the huge diamond ring (Rima) she made him wear. I told him it looked so beautiful, and then he got angry said, ‘If you don’t like it, I will throw it away’… I ran away thinking he was going crazy… even after the engagement, Bunty would come to my house, I never went to his home.”
The actress further remembered how her parents were upset and scared about Gaurav visiting their house after his engagement. But he assured the actress' mother that he would marry her daughter only, no matter what. However, things changed all of a sudden, and Gaurav backed out. Vijayta said:
“My father said he will ask Rajendra Kumar to ensure his son does not visit us now that he is engaged to be married. Bunty told my mother he would marry only me, despite his engagement. She told him this was impossible and then he swore that he would marry me. And then I don’t know what happened.”
After a short while, Vijayta got to know that Gaurav was allegedly dating Sunil Dutt’s daughter, Namrata Dutt. However, back then, there were several rumours hinting that Vijayta was the possible reason behind Kumar Gaurav’s split with Rima. In the same conversation, she clarified:
“I had absolutely no involvement with the breaking of the engagement.”
Fast forward to today, Rima Jain is married to Manoj Jain, whereas Kumar Gaurav is enjoying his marital bliss with Namrata Dutt.
