Vikrant Massey opened up about leaving television despite getting a sufficient remuneration, and claimed he wasn't at peace.
Vikrant Massey is one of the best performers in Indian cinema at the moment. The actor has won innumerable awards and accolades, courtesy of his impeccable films such as 12th Fail, Chhapaak, Ginny Weds Sunny, Lootera, Haseen Dilruba amongst others. However, not many know that the actor kickstarted his career in Bollywood only after bidding adieu to an equally successful journey in the television. For the unversed, Vikrant had previously been a part of quite a few daily soaps and shows, such as Balika Vadhu, Dharam Veer, Baba Aiso Var Dhoondo and others.
In a recent interaction on the podcast, Unfiltered With Samdish, Vikrant Massey talked about why he chose to quit television at the peak of his career. The actor, who was quite popular with his skills and even handsome remuneration, claimed that at the end of the day, he wasn’t able to sleep peacefully at night. Expressing more about it, he narrated:
“I earned a lot of money when working in TV. I bought my first home at 24, I was earning 35 lakh per month. It was a lot for someone from a family like mine where we struggled to make ends meet. After I bought the home, paid off debts, gave my parents a better life, I still couldn’t sleep peacefully. I quit at that stage because good work felt more important.”

Previously, in an interaction with ABP Live, Vikrant Massey retrospected his decision of never returning to the television space, despite being immensely popular and successful in it. He highlighted that he finds the content made over television these days quite regressive in nature, particularly towards women. Vikrant further credited his only show, Balika Vadhu for representing a radically different perspective towards women. In his words:
“There was a reason why I left television. I do not enjoy television because I do not subscribe to the kind of content they are making. I find it very regressive even today. Maybe it's their definition of entertainment. They give substandard parts to women. I was a part of ‘Balika Vadhu’ and the show empowered hundreds and millions of people. I can proudly say the show contributed to a lot about women's safety and girl child education. After doing that kind of content, I had a lot of fights with the makers and I have walked out of a few shows. I do not subscribe to their regressive content.”
In yet another of his interactions with FirstPost, Vikrant Massey was asked to reveal how he strides over the failures he has witnessed in his career. For the unversed, the actor has made an incredible path for himself, without having any support. To this, Vikrant remarked that over the years and his experiences thus far, he has learnt to spot humour even in the most dire of circumstances. Speaking further, he added how it is easy for him to take things with a pinch of salt, and thereby move on in life and restart once again.
