Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag's brother, Vinod, got arrested in Rs. 7 crore cheque bounce case. Here's everything to know about him.
India's former open batsman, Virender Sehwag's younger brother, Vinod, has landed in a soup. He got arrested by Chandigarh's Manimajra police on March 6, 2025, after his name got embroiled in a cheque bounce case. His detention came after a local court's order back in 2024 to declare him, along with two others, as fugitive offenders who failed to go to the court for the proceedings. This was about the bounced cheques which were issued to Krishan Mohan Khanna, who is the proprietor of Shree Naina Plastics.
Krishan Mohan Khanna, who owns Shri Naina Plastics, had filed a complaint after a Rs. 7 cr cheque bounced. The Manimajra police took Vishnu Mittal and Sudhir Malhotra apart from Vinod into custody as they were the directors of a food and beverage company called Xalta Food and Beverages. Now, according to the advocate, Vikas Sagar, who was the complainant's representative, it was in 2018 when Rs. 7 crore materials were acquired from Shree Naina Plastics.
As a form of payment, according to a report by Cricket Tracker, seven varied cheques of Rs. 1 crore were given, and the cheques bounced because of faulty funds. Despite following up, the company was not successful when it came to clearing the dues within the time frame. Khanna also sent a legal notice of clearance in 15 days, but no action was taken. The lower court had ordered Vinod Sehwag, Sudhir Malhotra and Vishnu Mittal as accused in 2024.
For the unversed, Vinod is only 15 months younger than his brother, Virender. As both have a similar age group, they have always remained as friends. Vinod and Virender used to bond and fight over cricket since childhood, according to a Divya Marathi Bhaskar report. Vinod and Virender used to have a group with their cousins, Joginder, Kunal, for cricket. Veeru, a.k.a Virender, was the eldest, so he used to rule and make Vinod out in cricket. Vinod, once in an interview with the publication shared:
"I used to always got caught in those days. Because Veeru would dismiss me early and then he would bat calmly and beat us."
Vinod, in Haryana's Jhajjar district, runs the Sehwag International School. He used to look after the family business and reportedly takes care of the Sehwag Cricket Academy in New Delhi. Vinod and his wife, Meenakshi, take care of the family business. Well, on the latest front, Vinod had earlier debated in the sessions court by claiming that he was never a director or an employee of the company, which caused his name to get dragged in the cheque bounce case. Vinod's lawyer also claimed that his client did not evade the court proceedings but was using his legal rights. The lawyer stated that his client had expressed willingness to come before the court. Reportedly, the next hearing would take place on March 10, 2025.
