Bollywood actor, Vivek Oberoi opens up about his father's approach to teach him business planning at an early age. Read on to know more.
Vivek Oberoi is one of the most famous faces in Bollywood and the son of the Indian actor, Suresh Oberoi. He made his acting debut in 2002 with films, Company and Saathiya. While the first film revolved around a crime drama, the latter was romantic. Vivek established his place in the industry as a versatile actor with his work in the movies, Masti (comedy), Kaal (horror), and Shootout At Lokhandwala (action). Although he was not an outsider in the industry, he faced some challenges in his acting journey. In a recent chat, the actor opened up about one such challenge.
Vivek Oberoi has never shied away from speaking about the hardships he faced during childhood or early acting life. Recently, in an interview with Entertainment Live, the actor remembered his father promising to take him on a vacation every month only if he learnt something new in the first four weeks. At that time, Vivek was only 10 years old and in school, when his father made him sell perfumes door-to-door.
However, the actor, in the interview, thanked his father for this approach, as it helped him understand the strategies of a business. Vivek’s father used to buy perfumes, so he asked Vivek to keep track of all the inventory. In addition to recording every entry, Vivek used to sell the products and keep the profits earned for himself. According to the actor, learning about finances and business at an early age proved beneficial in adulthood.
Talking about selling the perfumes, Vivek recalled keeping them in his school bag while he rode his bicycle door-to-door. Although he faced trouble completing the task, he continued and earned valuable experiences. In his words:
“I went door to door on my bicycle, carrying my school bag filled with the inventory and merchandise.”
The Krrish 3 actor shared that he started developing business ideas by the time he was 15. Around the same time, he also invested in the stock market. However, what’s more inspiring is that the actor came up with a tech startup when he was 19, which he later sold off, helping himself and investors earn profits. As Vivek found confidence in the business world, he also started facing new opportunities in his acting career with more courage. He added:
“There should be no mistake in hard work from my side. We have to give 100 percent. When we do that, the result would mostly be good: be it in films, business, philanthropy or love. Sometimes you get tired because of the workload. But when the team and people are so good, you join forces, contribute and they understand the vision.”
Dominating in Hindi films, Vivek Oberoi is also experienced in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayali films. After making his debut with Company, he has starred in several movies and has won numerous accolades. Apart from being known for Saathiya, the actor is also recognised for his works in Omkara, Kurbaan, Yuva, Rakta Charitra, and Vivegam. He was last seen in the web series, Indian Police Force, which also featured Siddharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty.
