Vivek Oberoi recalled how his life changed after his bitter fallout with Salman Khan. He shared that his family would even get calls from the underworld.
Vivek Oberoi started his acting journey on a positive note as a heartthrob in the early 2000s. However, over the years, more than Vivek Oberoi's work, his controversial remarks and infamous fight with Salman Khan made it to the headlines. Vivek Oberoi's immature act, driven by his emotions, led to a public statement against Salman Khan. Despite his repeated admissions of it being childish, influenced by the moment, Salman Khan did not forgive him. After the incident, Vivek was banned from Bollywood after, and now he has shared how his entire life changed.
Vivek Oberoi recently appeared on Dr Jai Madaan’s YouTube channel, wherein he shared that there was a time in his life when he entered a conflict zone. He was financially drained and was very stressed as, on top of his existing issues, he would get calls from the underworld. They would threaten him over calls, which took a toll on him. It was all the more scary as it was all happening together. Vivek added:
“There was a time when I entered a conflict zone in my career, and because of that, I faced a lot of financial strain. I was very stressed. I would get calls from the underworld. I would get threats. And I’d never experienced anything like this in my life. All of this happened together.”
Vivek Oberoi opened up by saying that the fiasco affected his entire family. His parents were getting threats, and they all were scared for his sister. His family initially thought that these were prank calls, but later, via police investigation, they found out that the threats were very real. Vivek further added:
"It was an emotional response. I was very young. I understood the repercussions and consequences of my actions much later. I was fine with dealing with the consequences of my actions, but I was bothered when my parents were threatened. My dad would pick up the phone, and someone would threaten him; my mother would answer the phone, and someone would threaten her. I was scared for my sister. Initially, we thought that they were prank calls. But later, the police confirmed that the threats were very real.”
Vivek Oberoi recently shared in the same interview that he refused to let Bollywood lobbies dictate his career. Despite delivering hits like Shootout At Lokhandwala, which earned him viral fame and numerous awards, he found himself without further film offers. This led him to a pivotal decision that he would not allow any lobby to control his destiny. In his own words:
"It was only around the 2009 mark when I decided I didn’t want to be completely dependent on this but build my economic independence. I didn’t want to be in a situation where a lobby could decide your future. Somebody could bully you into doing something because they controlled things.”
Vivek Oberoi's interest in business was not just a backup plan, it was a path to independence. He redirected his energy towards business, a decision that liberated him from the influence of Bollywood lobbies. His dedication and hard work paid off, as he not only found success but also provided livelihoods for others. Vivek's success in business is a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit, as he himself acknowledges:
“Business was always a Plan B, and I decided cinema will be my passion. My livelihood should be my business, which helped me earn my independence and get out of that whole trap of lobbies or having to sell your soul or suck up to somebody. That is no great way to live, at least for me. Some people make a living out of it, but for me, that’s not the case.”
