Talking about Waheeda ji's personal life, it is said that Guru Dutt's suicidal death on October 10, 1964, was because of his immense love for her. For the uninitiated, Dutt sahab's biopic, Pyaasa is in the making and according to a report by ETimes, a source had revealed that the film is going to unfold all the decade-long questions regarding his depression and suicide. The source had stated, "While doing her research, Bhavna spoke to a few people who worked with him and found out that he was not unhappy with his professional or personal life. While there have been speculations for years that he committed suicide (ended his life) because of his love for Waheeda Rehman, but it is not the truth. According to an actor who worked in Guru Dutt's films, he had moved on in life and was not in an unhappy space at all."
Waheeda Rehman had marked her debut in the glamour world at the age of 17 with a scintillating dance sequence in the 1955 Telugu film, Roju Marayi (remade as Kaalam Mari Pochu in Tamil). Waheeda ji had gotten hitched to the actor, Shashi Rekhi (also known as Kamaljeet) in 1974. Together, they have two children, Sohail Rekhi, who is a writer and Kashvi Rekhi. Waheeda ji's husband, Shashi Rekhi had died in the year 2000. Waheeda Rehman's sister, Shahida Rehman had once talked about the veteran actress with The Hindu and had said, "We have never treated Waheeda as a celebrity, but only as our sister. She also has never wanted it to be any different."
