What Possible Wrongs Does Wedding Insurance Make Right

Always expect the unexpected and be prepared for it in advance – a sweet and simple truth of life that makes wedding insurance a necessity. In their euphoria over their big day, smart couples postpone thinking about what their post marriage life will be, but smarter ones do take care to apply for wedding insurance so as to cover the unexpected losses that may arise in the event of wedding being cancelled, vendors backing out at the last moment or not rendering quality services as agreed upon in the service contract.

Venue/Vendor Issues

When a popular insurance company looked into the reasons for maximum wedding insurance claims during a particular period of time, it found rather amusing results. Apparently, venue and vendor problems account for the maximum number of wedding cancellations and wedding insurance claims, close to 47 percent.

There were instances where the venue management group went into bankruptcy, causing the venue to be closed down at the last moment. On other occasions, venues became inaccessible due to electricity, fire faults, weather related problems etc.

More amusing are the wedding insurance claims against vendors such as photographers for not turning up or developing bad pictures, florists using stale flowers or not delivering flowers at all, DJ’s ditching at the last moment or caterer performing glitches with the service. Are vendors/wedding service providers so unreliable?

Attire claims

Sounds quirky? Well, many wedding claims for insurance were filed on the ground of problems related to wedding attire. The groom’s tuxedo needs last minute alterations and wedding insurance provider will pay for it! Bride’s veil is nowhere to be seen and a new one had to be arranged urgently that cost a lot of money. The insurance will cover this also.

Linens, gifts and more

Around 13 percent of the claims are filed for linens, cutleries, gifts etc that are lost or stolen during the whole gala affair called the wedding. If a guest at your wedding injures herself, the insurance guy would take care of the medical bills also, if you were smart enough to take care of this under “host liability insurance”.

An untimely demise in the family or an injury to the bride or groom (just as in a recent Bollywood movie) may cause the wedding to be called off, sending all your hard earned money down the drain. If only you had applied for wedding insurance!

A wedding got postponed because the groom fell in love with the bridesmaid, who is also the bride’s best friend. The wedding insurance guy refused to cover the losses due to this

Why? Because on a principle, insurance is for ‘unpredictable and unexpected’ events. But is there a way to predict falling in love? Since when has Cupid been famous for hitting a bull’s eye?
