Dharmendra was not okay with his daughter, Esha Deol, joining the film industry. However, the latter somehow managed to convince him and left him speechless with her honest remark.
Daughter of Hema Malini and Dharmendra, Esha Deol is one of the most renowned actresses in B-Town. Over the years, she left the audience impressed with her stunning performances in many Hindi films. However, Hema Malini had once revealed that Dharmendra was not keen on allowing Esha to start a career in acting. Yes, you read that right! But being passionate enough, Esha called her dad out and left him speechless with her remarks.
During her appearance on an episode of Koffee With Karan season 2, Hema Malini was asked if Dharmendra gives any advice to their daughter, Esha Deol, regarding her career. Responding to the same, the legendary actress revealed that he stayed out of Esha's career because he didn’t want their daughter to work in the film industry. Hema Malini said:
“He was not keen on coming into films. He’s still not very comfortable with her working. But she took a decision so as a mother, I had to support her. Because I have brought her up in a different way, given her all the culture, the way she has to be brought up and she wanted to work in films."

Talking about Esha's reaction to her dad, Dharmendra's restrictions on her becoming an actress, Hema revealed the point that her daughter raised. Esha asked if her parents and brothers could work in films, then how could it be a problem. And since Dharmendra had no answer to that question, Esha started her career in films. Hema said:
“She asked me the question: ‘If you can work in films, papa can work, brothers are working in films, why do you say that it is not good?’ He could not answer anything so he had to keep quiet and she started working."
When Hema Malini and her daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol graced Simi Garewal's talk show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, the veteran actress revealed that her husband, Dharmendra likes their daughters to be always dressed up in ethnic ensembles. Esha also recalled how she would make Dharmendra accept her decision to join films slowly, as he would get angry. The loving daughter also revealed her father, Dharmendra's possessive side and revealed that he always asks them to sit at home. Mentioning that his upbringing is Punjabi type, Esha revealed that it is only because of their mother that they could go out for sports and all.

Over the years, Esha Deol starred in many films, including Na Tum Jaano Na Hum (2002), Yuva (2004), Dhoom (2004), Dus (2005), Cash (2007), and Tell Me O Kkhuda (2011). However, she took a hiatus and distanced herself from acting after 2011 and starred in only a handful of projects after that. Finally, she made her acting comeback in 2022 with the film, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness.
Esha Deol made her acting debut with the film, Koi Mere Dil Se Poochle in 2002. Earlier, in a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress was asked if her parents’ stardom pressurised her before she joined the industry. Responding to the same, Esha said that she was naive at that time and revealed how she was taken aback when she read articles about her performance being compared to her mother's, who is a veteran actress. In her words:
“I didn’t know till it happened. I was only 18 when I started acting, and at that age, you are very naïve, very excited, you’re gonna act and all that is there. When you see certain things and you’re reading some article, then you realize they are comparing my first movie’s performance to my mom who’s done maybe more than 200 films.”
On the personal front, Esha Deol is married to Bharat Takhtani, and the duo is blessed with two daughters, Radhya and Miraya.
