Dimple Kapadia became an overnight sensation with her hit film, 'Bobby', which was released soon after her wedding to Rajesh Khanna. Here's how her marriage posed problems in her debut film!
Veteran actress, Dimple Kapadia is a well-known face in the Hindi film industry, courtesy of her thriving career in Bollywood. Dimple had become a national sensation with her debut film, Bobby. Released in 1973 and directed by Raj Kapoor, the movie, Bobby featured Dimple in a glorious avatar. For the unversed, Dimple was just 15 years old when she appeared in the film. However, not many know that the actress got married to superstar, Rajesh Khanna, even before the release of her first film.
Talking about Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia's relationship, the duo met each other at a common friend's party. Rajesh was so smitten by Dimple's charm that he proposed to her for marriage almost immediately, and the latter could not refuse. As Rajesh was the reigning superstar of the Hindi film industry back then, Dimple was on cloud nine after getting his marriage proposal. Soon, the duo got married despite an age gap of 16 years and began their happily ever after. However, later their marriage posed a problem during the filming of Dimple's first film, Bobby.

It so happened that Dimple had mehendi etched on her hands due to her wedding to Rajesh Khanna. However, it became an issue for the film's narrative, and Raj Kapoor had to devise a way to get out of the trouble. He asked Dimple to hide her hands in quite a few movie scenes to maintain continuity. The actress was constantly seen hiding her hands in one of the songs from the movie, which was quite evident. Though there was no confirmation about the report, it was rumoured that Dimple was asked to hide her bridal mehendi during that time.
Another problem that Dimple Kapadia faced during the shooting of Bobby was that Rajesh Khanna irked Raj Kapoor. Rajesh used to disappear with Dimple during the shooting of her film without telling anyone, and everyone had to wait for her for several hours on the set. The duo would sneak away from the set to spend quality time together as they were newlyweds. However, Raj Kapoor was miffed by this behaviour of Rajesh, but he never said a word because he wanted Dimple to complete the shooting as soon as possible.

The film, Bobby was a huge hit, and it helped Dimple to etch her place in Bollywood. However, despite the massive success of her debut film, Dimple temporarily quit acting as her husband, Rajesh Khanna, did not want her to work in films after marriage. However, Rajesh and Dimple's marriage did not last long due to irreconcilable differences cropping up between the two. Reportedly, after a few years of his marriage, Rajesh Khanna’s stardom started fading away, and his movies stopped performing well in the 70s and 80s. The superstar couldn’t handle his failure, which severely impacted his relationship with Dimple. Finally, the couple got separated in 1982.
For the unversed, Dimple Kapadia returned to Bollywood with the film, Saagar, alongside Rishi Kapoor. Since then, she has been an integral part of both commercial and parallel cinema.
