Rani Mukerji once addressed the rumours of her rift with Aishwarya Rai and revealed the reason behind their broken friendship.
Rani Mukerji and Aishwarya Rai are two wonderful actresses from the same generation, They proved their mettle of acting in several films and ruled the silver screen for a long time. Though Rani and Aishwarya were contemporaries, they never let that pressure brew any kind of rivalry between them. However, the duo had a cold war equation due to some reasons and were infamous for that back then. Rani had also once confirmed that Aishwarya had problems with her.
Rani Mukerji replaced Aishwarya Rai in Chalte Chalte, because the latter's then-boyfriend, Salman Khan, created a major scene on the film's sets. Following this, Shah Rukh Khan, who was one of the producers, decided to sack Aishwarya from the film. While the actress was reportedly hurt by this,her world came crashing down when she learnt that her replacement in the film was her friend, Rani. Clearly, Aishwarya felt betrayed by her BFFs. After that, reports were rife that Rani and Aishwarya have a cold war going on.

When Rani Mukerji appeared on Karan Johar's show, Koffee With Karan, with Kareena Kapoor, she opened up about her cold war with Aishwarya Rai. It so happened that Karan asked Rani to talk about her rivalry with Aishwarya and asked whether the duo shared cold blood. Confirming the rumours, Rani said:
"And you know the reasons for it."
However, Karan further insisted Rani to spill the beans on her equation with Aishwarya Rai and shed light on their rivalry. He also indirectly hinted at their spat over the film and said, "Chalte chalte bata do". Responding to it, Rani said that she never had any personal problems with Aishwarya and added:
"I have no problems with anybody, and I still like I don't have any personal problem with Aish. I think may be Aish might be having a problem because she stopped talking on the phone. And I haven't met her socially anywhere, but I guess when we will meet, I think we will be very cordial with each other."

For the unversed, Rani Mukerji was once madly in love with Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan's son, Abhishek Bachchan. However, according to multiple media reports, Jaya was not happy with her son, Abhishek's relationship with Rani and never wanted them to get married. She despised Rani for being too arrogant and loud and asked her son to stay away from the actress. Reportedly, Abhishek obliged his mother's demand and parted ways with Rani, before finally tying the knot with Aishwarya. When Aishwarya and Abhishek got married, they didn't invite their once 'close friend', Rani to their wedding.
