Rekha is undoubtedly one of the best actresses in the Hindi film industry, and her popularity knows no bounds. However, not many knew about her bad temper and attitude back in those days.
Bollywood has seen numerous catfights over the last several decades, and people have always loved to know about them all. Especially when there are multiple stars in a single film, there is always a chance for the actors to clash for one reason or the other. However, at times, it becomes troublesome for the director to handle all of the stars at once. One such catfight was between the famous actresses of the 80s, Reena Roy and Rekha when both of them were seen together in the film, Nagin.
Ace filmmaker, Rajkumar Kohli made the audience fall in love with his work with the multi-starrer film, Nagin, in 1976. The movie had some of the best actors of that time, including Reena Roy, Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Sanjay Khan, Rekha, Mumtaz, Vinod Mehra, Yogeeta Bali, Kabir Bedi, Anil Dhawan and Jeetendra. Though the director managed to bring out the best in every actor, however, he had a hard time getting Rekha and Reena to work together in the movie.

The blockbuster film made Reena Roy quite popular and gave her much-needed recognition. The actress got a different place in the Hindi film industry after the success of the film, and the golden phase of her career kickstarted. Reena went on to appear in back-to-back super hit films and received a lot of love and praise from the audience. Well, not just this, Reena also gave tough competition to Rekha during this time. On the other hand, Rekha was one of the leading actresses of that time, so when she was cast in Nagin, along with Reena Roy, she did not want to appear any less than her in the film.
Reena Roy played the lead role in the film, and the entire focus was on her. However, Rekha was not happy with the idea of playing second fiddle to Reena. The movie had a song titled Tere Ishq Ka Mujh Pe Hua Yeh Asar Hai, which was sung by the soulful singer-duo, Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi. According to reports, the song ignited an ugly battle between Rekha and Reena, as the former got upset over a dress and threatened to leave the film.

It so happened that Reena's dress for the song was more expensive than that of Rekha. However, when Rekha got to know about it, she got extremely furious and lashed out at the director, Rajkumar Kohli, who immediately requested the producer to get the outfit changed. But the producer said that everything was already set and the shoot shouldn't get delayed. This made Rekha angry, and she gave an ultimatum that she would not shoot for the song if her dress wouldn't get changed. Rekha's attitude left the entire crew with folded hands in front of her, and eventually, Kohli changed Rekha’s outfit, and the song was shot.
Inspired by Francois Truffaut’s 1968 French film, The Bride Wore Black, the film, Nagin was the highest-grossing film of 1976.
