Here's everything you need to know about Bollywood's richest family, who has no superstars but is richer than the Chopras, Kapoors, and Bachchans.
The Indian film industry is one of the richest industries in the world, and Bollywood represented 44 percent of its box office revenue. With an average of 1200 films released in a single year, the Indian film industry has its reach in over 90 countries. Some of the biggest production houses in India include Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, Red Chillies Entertainment, Excel Entertainment, Maddock Films, Reliance Entertainment and many more. Back in 2023, Indian cinema hit an all-time high revenue of Rs. 12,226 crore, which was a massive 12 percent rise compared to the numbers of 2022.
The Indian film industry is filled with renowned film families. There are so many clans that have contributed heavily to Indian cinema, including superstar actors, renowned producers, and ace directors. However, today, we are going to talk about the richest Bollywood family, whose wealth is more than that of the Kapoors, Chopras, and Bachchans. The Kapoors are often termed the first film family of Hindi cinema. From Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor to Rishi Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, the Kapoor family has produced superstars in every generation. Apart from the Kapoors, we also have Chopras and Bachchans, who have given so many exceptional filmmakers and actors to Hindi cinema.
When it comes to the richest Bollywood family, the Chopras have an estimated net worth of Rs. 8000 crore, the Bachchans have Rs. 4500 crore, and the Kapoor family has a wealth of Rs. 2000 crore. However, there's one Bollywood family with an estimated wealth of Rs. 10,000 crore. Yes! You read it right. We are talking about the Kumar family of the Hindi film industry, which owns India's biggest music label, T-Series.
U-Series is one of the biggest music labels in India, and it was the late music producer and businessman, Gulshan Kumar Dua, who started it back in July 1983. Not everyone is aware of the fact that Gulshan Kumar was the son of a fruit juice vendor and built the T-Series right from scratch. In the beginning, Gulshan Kumar started his own audio cassette business under the name, Super Cassettes Industries, which was later named T-Series. The company was first established in Noida, but after gaining some success, Gulshan Kumar shifted it to Mumbai.
Talking about Gulshan Kumar's journey in the Indian film industry, it was in 1989 when Gulshan Kumar entered into film music with the movie, Lal Dupatta Malmal Ka. In the coming years, he went on to work in a series of films, including Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Bahaar Aane Tak, Ayee Milan Ki Raat, Meera Ka Mohan, Jeena Marna Tere Sang and Bewafa Sanam. However, it was Mahesh Bhatt's iconic film, Aashiqui that changed T-Series fortune, and the rest is history.
Gulshan Kumar got married to Sudesh Kumari in 1975, and the lovely couple welcomed three kids, Khushali Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, and Tulsi Kumar. Despite being one of the biggest music producers in the country, Gulshan Kumar always kept his children away from the media spotlight.
While Bhushan Kumar is a renowned film producer, Tulsi is one of the most successful singers in Bollywood, and Khushali is also a professional singer. All three kids are doing exceptionally well in their respective careers, contributing to their family's enormous wealth.
Gulshan Kumar is one of the biggest music producers of all time. However, not everyone is aware of the fact that he also has a younger brother, Krishan Kumar. For the uninitiated, Krishan Kumar works as a film producer in Bollywood. Unlike his elder brother, Krishan Kumar tried his luck in acting but couldn't make it big. It was back in 1993, when Krishan made his acting debut with the film, Aaja Meri Jaan. However, after appearing in a series of films, including Kasam Teri Kasam, Shabnam, Bewafa Sanam, Pagla Kahin Ka, and Papa the Great, Krishan left acting.
After bidding farewell to his acting career, Krishan Kumar started working as a film producer in Bollywood. The first film he produced was Lucky: No Time For Love, featuring Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan in the lead role. He is currently one of the biggest film producers in the country and has produced a series of big-budget films like Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Ready, Nautanki Saala!, Airlift, Satyameva Jayate, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, De De Pyaar De, Tanhaji, Thappad, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Animal.
Talking about Krishan Kumar's family, he got married to Tanya Singh back in July 2002. For the uninitiated, Krishan's wife, Tanya is also a former actress, who made her acting debut in Bollywood with the film, Aaja Meri Jaan. The stunning couple welcomed a baby girl some years after their wedding and named her Tishaa Kumar. For the uninitiated, at the mere age of 21, Tishaa passed away on July 18, 2024, due to cancer. It was a heartbreaking moment for the entire family, who is recovering from the tragedy, taking one step at a time.
