Recently, Kangana Ranaut sold off her Pali Hill House in Bandra, Mumbai. In her recent interview, the actress revealed the reason behind her decision.
Kangana Ranaut, an actress and politician, is always known for her bold statements and remarks in the industry. Amidst her controversial statements in the past about actors, Ranbir Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan, and filmmaker, Karan Johar, she has once again made it to the headlines. With her upcoming film, Emergency’s release postponed due to legal complications, Kangana was forced to sell her Mumbai house. In a recent interview, she revealed the reason behind her selling off the house.
Kangana’s solo directorial film, Emergency, was supposed to release in September 2024. However, due to political and legal complications, the film’s release has been stalled. A while back, Kangana made it to the headlines once again, but this time it is not for her bold statements, but because she sold off her Pali Hill bungalow. Fans are connecting it with her yet-to-be released film, and in an interview with News18, the actress revealed the reason behind her decision.
For the uninitiated, the Pali Hill bungalow, situated in Bandra, Mumbai, was also used as the office of Kangana’s production house, Manikarnika Films. The house was sold off for Rs. 32 crores. Talking about why she had to make this decision, Kangana revealed that she had put all her personal properties in the production of Emergency, but now that it’s not released, she has to tackle the crisis. In Kangana’s words:
“Naturally, my film was supposed to release. I put all my personal property on it. Now that it's not released, so anyway, that's what properties are for – for times of crisis.”
Pali Hill is a prime area of Mumbai. When Kangana purchased the property in 2017, its value was Rs. 20 crores. Then she turned it to Manikarnika Production House in 2019. However, some parts of the property were demolished by the BMC and the reason for it was said to be structural violations. Kangana thought of asking for the compensation for the demolition, but soon gave up the idea because according to her, it was taxpayer’s money and she couldn’t have it.
Directed and co-produced by Kangana, the film, Emergency, was planned to go on floors on September 6, 2024. Based on the biography of the political leader, Indira Gandhi, the plot of the film revolved around the emergency imposed by her from 1975 to 1977. Since the trailer of the film was released, Kangana, who enacted the politician in the film, was surrounded by controversies for wrongly portraying the Sikh community.
Also, the CBFC stalled the certification of the film, which led the co-producer of the film, Zee Studios, to approach the Bombay High Court and ask for the release of the film. However, some time back, Kangana took to her X handle to share the sad news that her film still hasn’t received approval from the Censor Board. Hence, the release of the film has been postponed and no one knows when it will go on the big screens.
