In the latest episode of Mashable India’s Gate Crashes, the handsome young scion of the Birla group, Yashovardhan gives a glimpse of his mansion.
Constructed by Yashovardhan’s great grandfather, Rameshwar Das in the 1930s, the Birla House is spread in Malabar Hills, one of the costliest areas in the entire Mumbai. The mansion is spread across 5,412 square meters approximately, and the entrance of the house boasts mythological paintings of Gods and Goddesses along with big statues and pillars on both sides of the house. The entrance has also placed many artefacts and plants.
As Yash gives a glimpse of his abode, he takes the viewers to a special room filled with pictures and memories of many Indian leaders. Yash while speaking about the room reveals that his house is more than 100 years old and was built by his great grandfather, who was very actively involved in the freedom movement of India. At that time, many leading politicians used to visit the house and stay in this special room. Yash also reveals that the family holds satsangs and poojas in this special room, which, as per him, has a spiritual elevation.

The room has a carpeted floor with the original sofas that have been preserved for the past 90 years and have been in the room for ages. One of the walls of the room has framed pictures of his late grandmother, Gopikumari Birla, father, Ashok Birla, mother, Sunanda Birla and sister, Sujata Birla. The entire room is done in pristine white walls with a few wallpapers, atop which the framed pictures of his late family members are placed.
The special room leads the way through a passage, which also gives glimpses of many artefacts and paintings. The passage leads to another room, which is the living room. The entire room is well-lit with natural sunlight coming through large glass doors. With big chandeliers, traditional wooden furniture, cane seats, and backrests, the room has preserved the charm of the past.
As Yash guides his viewers towards the room, the business tycoon shares an interesting story about the room. He revealed that the family now uses the space as a living room, which was earlier used by Mahatma Gandhi. Not just this, it was at this particular place, where the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel breathed his last.
The living room was beautifully done with cream-coloured walls with framed black and white pictures of Yash’s ancestors and some political leaders. The room also has a contemporary sketch, which, as per Yash, is modern art he purchased.
The living room leads its way to a luscious lawn with a lot of trees and plants. At the centre of the lawn stands a temple, which is done in white marble with black granite flooring. The temple has an idol of lord Vishnu. As Yash reveals details of the temple, he reveals that right next to the temple, there is Narmadeshwar shivling. Yash Birla believes in the power of spirituality, and the temple embodies the same.
There is a large dining space adjacent to the temple, where Yash Birla’s great-grandfather and the entire family gathered to have breakfast together right after the morning puja. It was a ritual in the family to have the morning meal together.

Apart from being a spiritual person, Yash is also a fitness enthusiast. As the entrepreneur took his viewers to his gym, we couldn’t help but notice the unique entrance of the lift in the house, which has idols of Gods carved atop it. The huge gym is located on the terrace of the Birla House, which boasts all the equipment. Yash Birla also reveals that all the equipment in the gym is not new, and some are even 20 years old.
The entire house gave a vibe of an old-world charm with historic paintings, modern art, and European canvases on the walls, along with porcelain vases and figures. Even after the renovation, Yash Birla has beautifully restored the house's old essence. The mythological and spiritual touch in the house was serene and gave a sense of calm.
