Yusuf Ibrahim recalls how Shah Rukh Khan's Ajmer Sharif visit caused a fan frenzy and even led to a lathi charge.
Shah Rukh Khan, the undisputed Badshah of Bollywood, enjoys an unparalleled fan following. Whether at film premieres or public appearances, the megastar’s charm is bound to draw massive crowds. Recently, his trusted bodyguard recalled a memorable incident when a mistimed visit to Ajmer Sharif Dargah caused immense chaos and even led to a lathi charge.
Yusuf Ibrahim is a celebrated security consultant who has worked with top Bollywood celebrities and managed high-end weddings, including that of Alia Bhatt-Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif-Vicky Kaushal, and Varun Dhawan-Natasha Dalal. He has also been a trusted bodyguard of Shah Rukh Khan. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Yusuf opened up about the chaos that unfolded during an unplanned visit to Ajmer Sharif Dargah during the IPL on a busy Friday afternoon. Yusuf shared:
“During the IPL, Shah Rukh sir wanted to go to Ajmer Sharif dargah. We reached there and the day we selected was wrong, a Friday, and the time was also not right, at 12:30, ekdum peak namaaz ka time. At any given time, if you go there on Friday, there will be 10,000 to 15,000 people.”
The crowd erupted into a frenzy as news of SRK’s visit spread through the town of Ajmer. Fans swarmed the area, making it nearly impossible for Shah Rukh’s team to move. The crowd was so bad, that they felt like they didn’t have to even walk by themselves. Yusuf recalled:
“When we went there, the whole town of Ajmer knew that Shah Rukh was coming to the Dargah. There was so much public, that we were literally standing there, logon ne humko dhakka maarke dargah legaye and dhakka maarke apne aap gaadi mai laake baitha diya.”
The situation became so overwhelming that the police had to intervene with a lathi charge to control the massive crowd. Yet, amidst the chaos, Shah Rukh Khan remained calm and composed. Yusuf lauded the megastar’s demeanour, saying:
“It was a difficult experience, police had to do lathi charge to disperse them from there. There was so much madness. It was a lifetime experience for me. When such situations happen, he is damn cool about it. Shah Rukh is damn cool when such situations happen, he knows that it’s not anyone’s fault – neither staff nor fans. It’s just the excitement of his fans, so everyone knows this is what happens. The temperament is always cool, nice and easygoing."
While the Ajmer Sharif experience remains etched in Yusuf’s memory as a lifetime event, he also shared a touching anecdote about SRK’s kind words to his parents. He recalled feeling overwhelmed by the actor’s humility in talking to Yusuf’s parents, and the way he praised their son’s hard work and care for him.
On his professional front, Shah Rukh Khan is set to return to the silver screen with his highly anticipated film, King. The movie also marks the major debut of his daughter, Suhana Khan, as a lead actress.
