Zayed Khan, who debuted in the 2004 hit, 'Main Hoon Na' recently opened up about his casting experience for the same. He said that Shah Rukh Khan's question made him feel bad, and Farah Khan was rude.
Most people remember the iconic action film, Main Hoon Na for the chemistry between the lead actors, Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen. Others remember it as Farah Khan’s directorial debut. However, very few people realise that the 2004 film was also a launchpad for someone else. And that person was actor, Zayed Khan, who played ‘Lucky Prasad Sharma’, the brother of SRK’s character. However, it seems the then-newcomer’s casting in the movie was a little trickier than he would have hoped.
Zayed Khan recently sat down for a candid chat with the YouTube channel, Couple Of Things and opened up about his time on the Main Hoon Na sets. Apparently, Farah Khan had locked in Shah Rukh Khan for the lead role, but the spot for the second lead role, ‘Lucky’ was still up for grabs. He further explained how he landed the same by 'accident.'
In the interview, Zayed revealed that he initially contacted Farah with the purpose of choreographing the song, Chura Liya Hai Tumne for the film. The director then asked him to get back to her in a week, and when he did, she set up a meeting in Shah Rukh Khan’s office. Zayed then talked about how the meeting went after Shah Rukh walked in, saying:
"He said 'we have called you to talk about a film of ours. I am producing a film called Main Hoon Na.' I was just listening to him but couldn’t really compute. Then he says that we have called you about the second lead part in Main Hoon Na."
Zayed Khan also shared his first impression of Shah Rukh Khan as he walked into the meeting. According to him, when the star showed up, he was his usual self and was 'very sweet, very loving, very well-mannered.' However, Shah Rukh did ask Zayed one question that made him feel very bad. In Zayed’s words:
"He goes 'yeh sab idhar udhar ki baatein band karte hain. I just want to ask one question 'Kya tum actor ho? Acting kar sakte ho?' Mujhe bada bura laga ki aise mujhse kisine aise baat kia. Maine bola I was born to act. It came from a point of view that I wasn’t trying to be arrogant or anything. I was feeling very bad that he asked me that can you act? I wanted to ask him can you act? When I answered, he just chuckled."
Zayed Khan also elaborated that Shah Rukh, who was acting in the film and also producing it, wasn’t the only one to make him feel bad. According to the actor, there was a moment during the initial interview when he also felt Farah Khan was rude. He said:
"I tell her that 'Farah, firstly, I don’t know why am I here but… She says 'just shut up for two minutes.' I felt she is very rude. I am like trying my level best to make conversation."
