Zomato founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal accepted that he can't go back to 'Shark Tank' season 4 as he got 'kicked out' by their new sponsor, Swiggy.
Shark Tank season 4 is knocking at the door and is currently in its pre-production stage. The show's makers are zeroing in on the sponsors, Sharks, and also auditioning contestants for the all-new season. However, it seems like this year, we won't see Zomato CEO and founder, Deepinder Goyal, in the show as his staunch competitor, Swiggy, has kicked him out.
Shark Tank India features ace businessman and investors like Anupam Mittal, Amit Jain, Aman Jain, Namita Thapar, Peyush Bansal, Vineeta Singh and more as judges. Deepinder Goyal is also one of them who recently joined the show in Season 3. The audience loved his eye for detail, witty nature and how he did not hesitate to speak his mind. However, it seems like this year, we will no longer see him on the show.
As per a report by Moneycontrol, in the fourth season of Shark Tank India, we may see Swiggy as one of it main sponsors. The food delivery brand has closed the deal for Rs. 40-60 crore, but as per their agreement, its rival company, Zomato's CEO, Deepinder Goyal, will no longer return to the show. Although the makers and Swiggy have not officially announced anything, Deepinder confirmed the news. In Deepinder's words:
"The startup culture of India is too much about showmanship. I went there to set a different narrative, be real and change how people perceive. I felt a moral obligation to go there. I shot for one weekend and gave my perspective. I, unfortunately, can’t go back because Swiggy sponsored Shark Tank and kicked me out, at least that’s what I heard.”
Shark Tank is a reality TV show under Sony Entertainment Television. Here, business owners pitched their ideas to the jury, who all are ace entrepreneurs and unicorn investors with their own billion dollar companies. Once the jury likes the points of the pitch and sees that the small business owners can make a profit, they invest in their ideas.
Deepinder Goyal and his wife, Grecia Munoz, recently explored the city and spent a day working as Zomato delivery agents in Gurgaon. The couple wore Zomato uniforms, hopped onto a bike, and delivered food to customers across the city. This initiative was part of a growing trend in which CEOs immerse themselves in the frontline roles better to understand their employees' work and even customer needs.
Let us know if you would like Deepinder Goyal to remain a jury member in Shark Tank.
