One of the major sleeping problems is snoring. It might come as a surprise, but all of us snore. For a few of us, this problem may be occasional, but others snore regularly and loudly as well. If you or your family members fall in the latter category, then it is not a good sign.
The one who snores disturbs the sleep of the other person next to him or her. If your snoring does not let your partner have a good sleep, it can lead to major relationship issues. Instead of sleeping in separate rooms, here are a few home remedies that you can try out. They are effective and assure a sound sleep for you and your partner.

One of the best-known expectorant and decongestant is cardamom. It is very helpful in opening a clogged nasal passage, and as you know, a free air passage results in reduced snoring. To get the most of cardamom, take a glass of warm water and mix one and a half teaspoon of cardamom powder to it. Drink this mix around half-an-hour before you slip into the bed.
One of the prime factors causing snoring is the excess mucus blocking the airways. If this is the reason in your case, then prepare the following drink and sip it before you retire to bed in the night. Take one-fourth of a lemon, one piece of ginger, two apples, two carrots and half a cup of water. Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until you get a uniform mixture.

Clarified butter, which we commonly call as ghee, is not just a food item. It is quite rich in some medicinal properties, which are considered very effective in opening blocked nasal passages. When the nasal passage is clear, not just your snoring reduces, it also induces sound sleep. To get the benefit of ghee, just warm it up a bit, and using a dropper, put two to three drops of warm ghee in each nostril just before you are about to hit the bed in the night. Repeat the process next day morning after waking up.
Olive oil is an effective anti-inflammatory agent and that is one of the reasons why it is used for massages. Apart from external uses, consumption of olive oil soothes the tissues all the way in the respiratory passages. Simultaneously, it lessens the swelling to give a clear passage for air. Meanwhile, it is quite potent in controlling soreness. Regular use of olive oil can reduce the vibrations in the throat and can stop snoring. To cure snoring, every night before you go to sleep, take two or three sips of olive oil. You can also mix one and a half teaspoon each of olive oil and honey for better taste and effect. Make it a daily practice.

Another common ingredient we use in our chutneys, drinks, salads and the likes, peppermint or pudina has anti-inflammatory property in abundance. This substance aids in lessening swelling of the membranes in the lining of the throat and nostrils. In this way it helps in easy and smooth breathing. If you are suffering from snoring woes due to cold or dry air or an allergy, peppermint works wonder. Take a glass of cold water and mix one or two drops of peppermint oil in it. Gargle with it before going to bed. Do not swallow this mix. Do it regularly, till you get desired benefits.
Alternately, just before you are about to sleep, rub a bit of peppermint oil into the lower portions of each side of your nose. If your snoring is due to dry air and congestion, add a few drops of peppermint oil in a humidifier, about 30 minutes before you are about to sleep, turn it on and let it run overnight. It will open your airways and as a result, you will be able to sleep well without snoring.
