A Family In Ujjain Performed Daughter's 'Pind Daan' After She Married Her BF From Another Caste

Marriages are supposed to bring families closer as they celebrate the union of two souls who promise to love and cherish each other. However, marriage in Ujjain took a bizarre turn when the bride refused to recognise her family after she married a man from another caste. What they did next left many shocked.

A video has been making rounds on the internet, which shows a family performing the pind daan of their living daughter. The family took such drastic steps after the girl eloped with her boyfriend, who is being informed to be from a different caste. The family not only decided to cut ties with the girl. The family is reported to hail from the Khachrod region of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The young woman, Megha, expressed her desire to marry her boyfriend, but her family denied her as the man was from a different caste. The girl then went on to defy her family's wishes and got married against their consent.

The young woman eloped and later refused to recognise her family

After the young woman ran away from her home, her family filed a missing person report with the Khachrod police. However, when the police found her and brought her and her husband to the police station, she refused to recognise them. The police had asked the young girl to confirm whether the family was hers when she denied knowing them. Heartbroken and angered by her actions, the family took the drastic step and printed the funeral invitation for their daughter and invited the entire community to perform her last rites.

The family gathered their entire village and organised a shanti bhoj. They performed her pind daan and shaved their heads as part of the rituals. The family printed the funeral invitation, where they shared that the youth has been misusing modern communication. They expressed that kids are taking advantage of their parents' kindness and have been disregarding their families and social values. 

They further highlighted that the increasing trend of inter-caste marriages has turned out to be a point of concern for society. The message in the invitation stated that they have been pushed to take such extreme steps to uphold family and societal dignity. They further mentioned their daughter's elopement with a young man from a different caste. They concluded the invitation by stating that, for them, she was now dead and had held a pind daan and shanti bhoj to perform her last rites. 

Netizens react to the video

The video of the santi bhoj soon went viral on social media, and netizens came forward to share their opinion on the same. While some agreed with the family and stated that they did the right thing, many were not pleased by how they had reacted. A user stated, "These are the parents who can see their daughter's death but not her happy..." Another said, "And people are being part of this act?? Accept or not, it's your choice. But at least don't create such dramas." A comment read, 'Shame on the family."
