Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, despite their divorce, continue to share a warm and supportive bond. In a candid conversation with Filmfare, Kiran opened up about their love story, which began on the sets of Swades in 2004. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan, often called the Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood, has once again proved his dedication, not only to his craft but also as a family man. At the trailer launch of his son, Junaid's film, Loveyapa, Aamir revealed that he has quit smoking for good.
Kiran Rao, who has remained on excellent terms with her ex-husband, Aamir Khan, shared her side of their love story in a recent chat with Filmfare. Ahead of Aamir's son, Junaid Khan's film's release, Kiran recounted her early days with the superstar. She said:
“We had various ways of communicating pre-mobile and pre-internet. Sometimes we had to stand on a hill to get network. That’s actually the beginning of our romance in 2004 when I was shooting Swades.. we were like two people who had common interests and lots to chat about. The fact that he is a star, I had worked on Lagaan and seen how he works, he is not at all starry on a set, he will hold a cutter or a reflector if need be.”
On Friday, January 10, 2025, Aamir Khan appeared at the trailer launch of his son, Junaid Khan’s upcoming romantic comedy, Loveyapa, co-starring Sridevi’s younger daughter, Khushi Kapoor. During the trailer launch, the superstar announced that he finally quit smoking, amid reports of him vowing to quit the habit if his son's film became a box-office hit.
Aamir expressed how, after multiple failed attempts, this time, quitting smoking felt like a way to channel positive energy into his son’s career, whether or not the film becomes a hit. He was heard saying:
“I'm very happy to say that I've quit this bad habit. And whoever is watching or listening, I want to tell them too to please quit it. It's not a good habit. Mujhe lagta tha mujhe chhodna bhi hai, mere bete ka career shuru ho raha hai. Maine apne dil mein ek mannat maangi. Main chhod raha hu, chahe chale ya na chale, main apni taraf se ek cheez kar raha hu works or not, I'm doing this independent of that. As a father, I wanted to sacrifice. Aur kahin universe mein ja ke uska kuchh ho.”
Aamir shared an anecdote from 2018 about seeking Shah Rukh Khan’s advice on whether he could smoke in front of Amitabh Bachchan during the filming of Thugs of Hindostan. He shared:

“Shah Rukh told me, 'Amit ji is cool, you can smoke in front of him. If he scolds you, just run away.' Next thing you know, Amit ji and I are watching Wonder Woman during the shoot in Malta and he tells me, 'I heard you asked Shah Rukh if you can smoke in front of me.' I didn't know how to react. But Amitji was cool.”
Do you think Aamir Khan quit smoking for good this time?
