Abhishek Bachchan is the son of veteran actors, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Following in the footsteps of his star parents, Abhishek made his acting debut with the 2000 movie, Refugee. Directed by JP Dutta, the film also featured another debutante, Kareena Kapoor. Over the years, Abhishek has worked in many films and established a name for himself in the Hindi film industry. He was last seen in the sports drama, Ghoomer, directed by R Balki and co-starring Saiyami Kher in the lead role.
In an interview with Galatta Plus, Abhishek Bachchan reflected on his acting journey and shared that though he has experimented with more realistic cinema, he wants to return to old-school song-and-dance fare or a slapstick comedy. However, the actor added that before getting director, JP Dutta’s project, Refugee, it wasn’t easy for him to step into the world of showbiz. Abhishek recalled that nobody wanted to take on the responsibility of launching Amitabh Bachchan’s son, as the Bachchans were going through a rough time back then.

Speaking along the same lines, Abhishek Bachchan recalled he also returned to India from college in the United States to be with his father, Amitabh Bachchan, as their business had just collapsed. He shared how he was spotted by director, JP Dutta at an awards function, only after being rejected by many directors over two years. Abhishek shared that one day, Amitabh invited him to join him at the Filmfare Awards, which is where his life changed. In his words:
“Filmfare, 20 years ago, you planned months in advance about what you’d wear. And nobody was giving away free clothes in those days, you’d have to buy them yourself. You’d make sure you weren’t shooting that evening, the entire industry would show up, even if they weren’t nominated. It was an occasion. But then, I was like, ‘What to wear?’ It sounds weird to say it now but I didn’t have that many clothes, we couldn’t afford to… We were going through a rough time, and trying to be as frugal as we could be.”
Talking about the same, Abhishek shared that he had nothing formal to wear, and he couldn't go wearing jeans and a T-shirt. So, he wore the sherwani that was made for his sister, Shweta Bachchan’s wedding a couple of years back. The actor added:
“I had nothing formal to wear, and I didn’t think it would be prudent to show up in jeans and a T-shirt. So, the sherwani that was made for my sister’s wedding a couple of years earlier, I wore that and went.”
