Amitabh ji has completed 50 remarkable years in the industry, it took a lot of hard work for him to create a name that resonates stories of his legendary journey. And a hiccup that showed the immense amount of love his fans have for him. We are talking about the year 1983 when Amitabh was at the peak of his career and he met with a fatal accident on the sets of his film, Coolie. And according to his loved ones, he was miraculously revived on August 2, 1983.

It's been 36 years and his family and fans still remember the day vividly. The entire nation was praying and chanting for their superstar to get better and on this day God granted their wish. On August 2, 2019, Amitabh ji's son and Bollywood actor, Abhishek Bachchan recalled the incident. He took to Instagram and posted a monochrome picture with his sister (Shweta Nanda) and father post the accident. Along with it, he wrote, "#flashbackfriday 37 years ago in the Breach Candy hospital. My father was recovering from a near-fatal accident on the sets of his film Coolie. Today- 2nd August we celebrate his second birthday as he was miraculously revived by the doctors on this day. Amitabh ji also expressed his feelings and shared that it is a debt he can never repay. The legendary actor took to Twitter and wrote, "Many are they that remember this day with love and respect and with prayer .. I can only say I am blessed to have such gracious thoughts with me, it is this love that carries me on each day, it is a debt that I shall never be able to repay."

For those who don't know, on July 26, 1982, during a fight scene, Amitabh ji got severely hurt when he had misjudged his jump and landed on a table. He was rushed to Mumbai hospital and underwent multiple surgeries. He was clinically declared dead for a few minutes before he was put on a ventilator. The actor had talked about this incident on his blog once, and had written, "There is enormous amounts of celebratory mention and wishes for the 2nd of August, the day when I recovered from my Coolie accident, to live another day, through the prayers of the millions that saved my life through their devotion to the Almighty, the heaviest debt that I shall happily bear, and ever be in a state of never being able to repay it." He had further written, "There is sufficient media coverage on those times and days, for me then to elaborate would be boring and repetitious, best then to avoid and be in gratitude and prayer. There is a long history to the events of those times. One that shall not be able to be narrated here, though I do make insincere promises that someday they shall be spoken of."
Amitabh ji had once shared a short story related to the accident at the launch of Maithili Rao’s book, Smita Patil: A Brief Incandescence. He had said, "I was in Bangalore shooting for ‘Coolie’ once. Late into the night at around 2 am I received a call in my hotel room. The receptionist informed me that it was Smita Patil on the line. I was shocked as I had never spoken or talked to her at such a time. Thinking that it would be an important one, I answered. Smita asked me if I was alright and in good health. I answered yes and she said that she just had a bad dream about me and that’s the reason behind calling up so late in the night. The next day I had my accident."
