It was in 1999 when Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan had first met professionally during the photoshoot of their first film together Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke. Contrary to Abhishek's expectation of Aishwarya being a diva, 'she was disarmingly wonderful' instead. Aishwarya and Abhishek then worked in Kuch Naa Kaho, Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli, Dhoom 2, Sarkar Raj, Umrao Jaan, Guru and Raavan, together and eventually their friendship blossomed into love. But before being introduced professionally in 1999, Abhishek and Aishwarya had met quite a few times and both have different memories of their first meeting.

To begin with Aishwarya Rai, the former Miss World once recalled that she met Abhishek Bachchan in the winter of 1990 when she went to his home, Prateeksha in Juhu. Aishwarya went to the Bachchan house to discuss some professional work with Jaya Bachchan, when she saw Abhishek, who was just a teenager, playing in the living room. On seeing Aishwarya walking in the room with Mrs Bachchan, he 'promptly folded his hands into a namaste'. During that time, Aishwarya discovered that out of all the Bachchans, Abhishek was the most awkward in front of the camera and she had not imagined that he would one day choose acting as his career.
Now, in a podcast with YouTuber, Ranveer Allahbadia, Abhishek Bachchan recalled his memory of the time, when he first met Aishwarya Rai. Revealing that he was a production boy for his father, Amitabh Bachchan's film, Mrityudaata, when he first met Aishwarya, who was shooting for her debut Hindi film, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, Abhishek said, "I first met her when I was a production boy. There was a film my father was making called Mrityudata, and I had gone for the location recce to Switzerland, because the company felt that because I had grown up in Switzerland in boarding school that I would be able to take them to nice locations. I had been there for a couple of days, all alone."
Revealing that it was his childhood friend, Bobby Deol, who introduced him to his Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya co-star, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan continued, "And that's when a childhood friend of mine, Bobby Deol, was shooting for Aur Pyar Ho Gaya. And he got to know I was there, and said 'Hey, why don't you come over for dinner?' And that's the first time, when they were shooting, when I met Aishwarya." When asked if he had a crush on Aishwarya back then, Abhishek admitted, "Who doesn't crush on her? I mean, come on, come on."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan embarked on their marital journey in 2007 and four years later, in 2011, the couple embraced parenthood with the arrival of their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. Aishwarya and Abhishek completed 14 years of marital bliss on April 20, 2021, and in late anniversary posts, while he thanked his fans for the wishes, she had given a glimpse of how they celebrated the occasion. Thanking everyone for their wishes, Abhishek, who is shooting in Lucknow for a project, tweeted, "Thank you very much for all your wishes for Aishwarya and my wedding anniversary, yesterday. Please continue to stay safe, wear your mask and if possible, try not to go out. Thank you again." Aishwarya posted a screenshot, posing with her little one, Aaradhya for her virtual anniversary celebration with Abhishek, and captioned it with a few emojis.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Abhishek Bachchan had spoken about how his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan gave him a valuable perspective towards life during the lockdown and taught him a valuable lesson. He was quoted as saying, "As all wives do, they put your lives into focus, they put you back on track. She said yeah but put it this way, 'For the first time in your life you got to spend the entire year with your family. And your family is safe and healthy today'. And it's so true. We get to do what we love and go back to a healthy and happy family. That’s successful. It doesn’t matter if you are living in a mansion or a hut. As long as you can smile or put a smile on the face of your loved ones what else matters?"
