Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has been in the headlines since it went live on the OTT giant, Netflix. The star cast of the series received well appreciation from the audience. However, it was Sharmin Segal, niece of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who failed to stand up to the expectations of the audience with her acting skills. The viewers tagged her acting skills as 'emotionless' and 'poor'. It was on June 3, 2024, when Bhansali announced the second season of Heeramandi, and netizens filled the comment section with their requests to the director not to cast Sharmin again. Recently, Shekhar Suman and his son, Adhyayan Suman talked about the constant trolling that Sharmin has been facing.
For the unversed, Shekhar Suman and his son, Adhyayan Suman, were part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi. While Shekhar played the role of 'Zulfikar Ahmed', Adhyayan portrayed the role of 'Zoravar Ali Khan' in the series. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the father and son duo was asked to share their views on the trolling that Sharmin Segal had faced.

While Shekhar added that he understands why Sharmin had chosen to play the role of 'Alamzeb', Adhyayan shared that the actress should come out of the bubble and accept reality. Adhyayan also added that it is extremely important for a person to know who they are and whether they have something inside of them to fight in the long run. Adhyayan can be quoted as saying:
"I think it’s very important to not live in a bubble. It’s very important to accept any sort of reality, not just Heeramandi, per se. It’s very important to understand who you are, it’s very important to understand whether you have it in you to fight the next 15-20 years. It’s important for you to not lie to yourself.”
Adhyayan shared how he had worked hard on himself during the time of disappointment. He also remarked that if Sharmin feels that she had worked hard and did justice to her part, then she should come out and talk to people as the audience is gentle and will surely provide her with a chance to prove herself. Adhyayan said:
"If she is being criticised for her performance, she should come out and speak to people. The audiences are very gentle, they’ll give you another chance if they feel you’ve worked hard.”

In the same interview, Shekhar Suman stated that he finds this trolling to be unfair to Sharmin Segal. The actor didn't praise the actress' performance and stated that if Sharmin feels that there's some credibility to all these bitter talks, then she should come out and prove herself and correct herself, and if not, then she should just ignore them. Shekhar also stated that from his point of view, the trollers are getting too harsh on Sharmin, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali did not cast the actress just because she is his niece, but she definitely had some impressive talent. Shekhar stated:
"I think they’re being too harsh on her. There are different schools of acting. If she wasn’t right, Bhansali saab wouldn’t risk his name, his career, his reputation on a girl just because she’s his niece.”
