Sharmin Segal played the role of 'Alamzeb' in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. However, she failed to impress the audience, and her acting skills got tagged as 'poor'. With people questioning SLB about casting his niece, Sharmin, the actress has been dragged into the nepotism debate. Now, in an interview, Aditi Rao Hydari came in support of her Heeramandi co-star, Sharmin for being brutally trolled for her performance in the 8-episodic mega series.
Recently, in an interview with Puja Talwar, Aditi Rao Hydari shared her reaction to Sharmin Segal facing mean comments for her performance in Heeramandi. "It's horrible to pick on anybody. I know some people like something and some people don't. There is a way to say it. It can get very mean. It has gotten very mean and I think it's not fair and it shouldn't happen like that. I don't know what else to say but I do feel bad. I think we should all understand it and be there for each other.”

Furthermore, Aditi shared that people have to find a way to make things easy for others; otherwise, it can create many problems. The Padmaavat actress added that even though people are making fun of Sharmin and criticising her acting chops, the latter should only look at the positive. In her words:
"I also feel people do what they think is important to them. If some people want to be mean, that is their prerogative. Whoever is facing it, I would just say, 'look at the positive'.”

In a candid conversation with the BBC Asian Network podcast, Sharmin Segal opened up about the constant criticism. She shared her views on getting slammed for her acting skills and mentioned that if she starts taking that pressure on herself, that will be useless. Talking about the same, the actress highlighted the pressure she had undergone earlier and shared how she has, by this time, already started advocating for mental health and a happy life. Talking about her support system throughout the highs and lows, she said:
“If I start taking all that pressure on myself… I am a very strong advocate for mental health and living a happy life. So, I do want to do what I want to do and I would love for everyone to love Alamzeb. But, at the end of the day, there will be people who have to say what they have to say.”
