AICWA Appeals For Suspension Of 'Anupamaa' After Crew Member's Death, Says, 'Created A Death Trap..'

It seems like the universe is in the mood to test Anupamaa and its cast members. The controversy related to the show lead, Rupali Ganguly, has hardly died, but another tragic incident has the show in trouble. The tragic death of a 32-year-old worker on the show's set has led to questions regarding its maintenance and safety measures. 

All India Cine Workers Association pleas CM, Eknath Shinde to suspend Anupamaa

The death of a camera attendant, Vineet Kumar Mandal, on the sets of Anupamaa was ruled out due to electrocution, which has led to several questions regarding the show's safety standards. The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has now written a letter, dated November 18, 2024, to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde. In the letter, the association claimed that the cameraperson’s death was a result of disregard for safety protocols and demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for the victim’s family.

AICWA asks CM to take immediate action against the show

The show that has just started its track after a massive leap seems not to be following proper safety protocols. In the same letter, the founder and the President of AICWA, Suresh Shamlal Gupta, claimed that the maker's negligence was the reason for the cameraperson's death. He further reported that despite the tragedy on set, the shooting of the Rupali Ganguly starrer continued until midnight. Suresh Shamal Gupta has urged the CM to take action as soon as possible and suspend the show on the basis of negligence. He wrote:

"Even worse, the production resumed shooting the very next day, blatantly ignoring the gravity of the situation. The hazardous conditions on sets, perpetuated by the use of old, damaged, and poorly insulated electric wires patched with plastic tape, created a death trap for workers. This systemic disregard for basic safety protocols has led to yet another preventable loss of life." 

AICWA has requested the CM to file an FIR under these sections

The said letter, which was also shared on X by AICWA, urged Shinde to file an FIR under IPC Section 302 against the producers, the production house, the channel, the Film City managing director, and the Labour Commissioner. The section charges the involved parties under punishment for murder. The association has further demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore for the family of the deceased and to suspend the shoot until the investigation is completed and the culprits are held accountable. The letter read:

"Suspend all shooting activities on the set of Anupamaa and other associated productions until a thorough investigation is completed and accountability is established. Immediate inspection and enforcement of safety protocols on all sets, with strict penalties for non-compliance."
