To begin with, let us delve into the adorable love story of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. The duo had met each other for the first time on the sets of their first film together, Dhai Akshar Prem Ka. However, they bonded with each other as nothing more than friends initially. After that, the duo came together multiple times and worked opposite each other in various films. However, the 2006 released film, Umraao Jaan, set the base of their love story.
It was in 2007 when Abhishek set up his mind to take the plunge with Aishwarya and popped her the question. While Aishwarya was taken aback momentarily, she quickly responded with a happy yes to his proposal. The duo finally became each other’s forever in a lavish traditional Tulu wedding ceremony on April 20, 2007.
In 2011, Aishwarya and Abhishek announced to the world the happy news of the couple expecting their first child together. Apart from the couple’s massive fans who sent them all the good wishes, their excited families celebrated such great news by hosting a lavish godbharai ceremony for the then-mommy-to-be. After her homely celebration at the Bachchan’s home, Jalsa, Aishwarya received a warm and lavish ceremony arranged by her mother, Brinda, at a grand hotel. For the event, the entire venue was lit up with earthen diyas and strings of jasmine. Her mother also kept up the South Indian touch by decorating the venue with bell-metal lamps. They had arranged a private celebration, and the media was strictly prohibited from entering the premises. Traditional Carnatic music was also arranged for entertainment purposes.
With such a grand setup, the then-parents-to-be also matched their vibe with that of the occasion and put their traditional best foot in fashion. The then-mommy-to-be, Aishwarya, looked radiant in a gold and olive-hued dual-toned Kanjeevaram silk saree with vivid zari motifs. She teamed it with a three-quartered matching blouse. Gajra adorned hair bun, glossy makeup, heavy temple jewellery and her bright smile accentuated her look. On the hand, the then daddy-to-be, Abhishek looked dashing as he matched his wifey in an olive and gold-hued kurta set.
With such a royal-like décor and ambience, the gracious host, Brinda Rai also arranged for a perfectly delectable range of menus for the occasion. According to a report back in 2011, exquisite arrangements had been made for including a variety of Mangalorean specialities, such as velli appam, Malabari parottas, Hyderabadi biryani, curd rice, fish and prawn curries, among other of some of the most iconic dishes.

These included eminent filmmakers, Ashutosh Gowariker, Mani Ratnam and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and some of Abhishek’s friends like, Kirron Kher, Sonali Bendre and others.
In one of the other mesmerising glimpses from the godbharai ceremony, we also spotted the elated grandparents-to-be, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, blessing the couple, Abhishek and Aishwarya with all their love and well-wishes for their new life ahead. Furthermore, they had laden Aishwarya’s lap with many gifts and even performed a ceremonial aarti of the mommy-to-be. Later, the same rituals were also performed by Aishwarya's parents, Brinda Rai and Krishnaraj Rai.
