Aishwarya Rai and the entire Bachchan family have been hogging the limelight ever since fans speculated that the actress and Abhishek Bachchan are headed for a divorce. The personal life of the former Miss World, along with the life of Abhishek, has always been under the radar. Amid all this, let us look back at a time when Aishwarya had rejected two big Hollywood movies because she was principle-oriented. She did not want to do the kissing scenes.
In the early 2000s, Aishwarya created a niche in the Hollywood film industry. For the uninitiated, she was in movies like Bride and Prejudice, Mistress of Spices, and Provoked. She was at the peak of her career when she was given two more movies that could have shaped her career. According to a report in DNA, Aishwarya had turned down two action movies, and instead, Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron were roped in. She was the first choice for the movie Mr and Mrs Smith, where she would have shared the screen space with Brad Pitt. Aishwarya claimed that she was uncomfortable doing kissing and intimate scenes as a female spy in the movie. That is how Angelina Jolie grabbed the movie.
Aishwarya rejected another Hollywood movie, Hanock. She did not do it because she did not want to lock lips with Will Smith. A report with The Telegraph revealed that the actress also had date issues, which prevented her from playing the female lead opposite Will Smith. She turned down the film, which was then bagged by Eva Mendes.
Not just this, the actress reportedly was offered to play the role of 'Briseis', a priestess of the Trojan almighty Apollo and the widow of a Trojan warrior. Who would want to avoid grabbing the opportunity to work with Brad Pitt? It was a once-in-a-lifetime role, but that was not the case with Aishwarya, who had rejected the offer. During an earlier interview with The Indian Express, Aishwarya had opened up about why she had rejected the movie and said:
“Films in the West and here work differently in the sense that they meet you and then they say ‘greenlit’ and they lock you off for a period of time because of the insurances. The way the entire film schedule is, you are locked off, which was very new for me. You understand the impact of the [film]. It is exciting because these are huge offers. But when Troy was spoken about — forget on the script level — they were saying at least six to nine months to lock off [the schedule] because it is a huge film. I had films here I was committed to, I couldn’t get myself to kick that to the curb.”
Do you think Aishwarya did the right thing when she scoffed at opportunities to work with Brad Pitt and Will Smith?
