When Aishwarya Rai Cried Profusely After Manisha Koirala Blamed Actress For Her Breakup

If one goes back to the '90s, catfights, gossip, and scandals were very common. There used to always be competition between actresses, and they were known to not be able to see each other grow. One of the popular gossip of Bollywood back then was of Aishwarya Rai, model, Rajeev Mulchandani and Manisha Koirala. It was an unexpected turn of events when Manisha accused her then-beau, Rajeev, of having a private fling with Aishwarya. The blue-eyed actress once confessed to crying her heart out when Manisha made baseless accusations about her.

When Aishwarya Rai slammed Manisha Koirala for accusing her of fling with Rajeev Mulchandani

According to an ETimes report, Manisha had discovered an alleged love letter while she was courting Rajeev. Neither Rajeev nor Aishwarya had spoken about it, but Manisha felt he had written letters to the Devdas actress. It fuelled speculations that Aishwarya had an affair with Rajeev. The actress did not keep quiet and was so disappointed that she had also cried. According to the publication, she had revealed in an old interview that she had praised Manisha for her role in Bombay (1995). Although things got weird when her name was dragged, a varied controversy started, and the rumours affected her. In her words:

“If this was true, why did this information not come out in July 1994? If this was the reason for her separation from Rajiv, why did it take nine months to come out?” Manisha affected me a lot in the beginning. I cried like crazy. I was very sad with whatever was happening around me."

Aishwarya, going ahead in the old interview shared, that she had just watched Bombay and thought Manisha was brilliant. She was even planning to send her a bouquet to congratulate her. Aishwarya said that it was on April 1 when Rajeev happened to call her and she excitedly told him how much she admired Manisha's performance. In her words:

"That’s when he laughed and asked if I had been reading the papers. He informed me that Manisha had claimed to have found love letters from him to me. I couldn’t believe it! It was a very rude shock.”

When Aishwarya Rai revealed she and Rajeev Mulchandani were good friends

Aishwarya shared that the Manisha episode had affected her a lot in the beginning. She used to cry like crazy and was hurt miserably by everything happening around her. Aishwarya was always firm about the fact that she and Rajeev were good friends. During an earlier interview with Showtime Magazine, Aishwarya shared that at the beginning of ’94, a leading magazine came out with this ‘red hot scoop’. Rajeev was supposed to have dumped her for Manisha. In the words of the actress:

"I called up Rajeev the moment I came to know about this asking what all the crap was about. Rajeev was a very good friend of mine nothing beyond that. I told him I didn’t want to get roped into their love story. After two months, they weren’t seeing each other. Manisha was seeing a different guy every second month.”
