Akshay Kumar is one the most popular, talented, and upfront actors in Bollywood. He has always been candid in his interviews and often shares his experiences with the audience. Despite his success and versatility as an actor, negative air has surrounded him from the past few years. Recently, Akshay sat down for an interview with Galatta, and shared his opinion regarding the negativity and criticism surrounding the decisions he makes as an actor.
Akshay Kumar is known for being a disciplined person in his career and personal life. Unlike other actors who do 1 or 2 films in a year, Akshay does nearly 3-4 films in a year. He is famous for being an early riser and schedules early morning shoots that help complete the filming in a few months. However, many critics and netizens raise questions about his approach, blaming it for impacting the essence of a film. Akshay can not comprehend why people have problems with him doing four films in a year. He was quoted as saying:
"A lot of people have problems as to why am I doing 4 films a year. I don’t understand this. For the first time in my life, I have heard somebody saying why are you working so much. Have you ever heard a question: why do you work? I do 4 films a year, and people have a problem with that."

At the same time, Akshay, who has been working in the Hindi film industry for more than three decades, said that he often feels like a Mahalaxmi ka ghoda in a race when he is compared with others. The Kesari actor says that Hindi Cinema makes nearly 190-200 films in a year, and so does South Indian cinema, which gives a lot of space to every actor. So, there shouldn't be a fight for work or a ranking on who is number 1 or 2. One should just focus on doing their work.
Akshay Kumar is married to Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of yesteryear superstar, Rajesh Khanna. He is known to be the first superstar in the Hindi film industry with a massive fan following. Rajesh Khanna initially witnessed great success, but his career drastically declined in the later years of his career. Akshay shared that he has heard many stories and learnt a lot from his father-in-law, Rajesh Khanna's career about managing failure and success. In his words:
"I don’t let anything enter my head. I have seen a lot of people fall down, I have heard many stories. My father-in-law has taught me so much, because he had seen the biggest success in life and then he saw a complete drop. I have heard stories. What I do is, I take knowledge from other people, and I realise that these things are just to be kept at a one-hand’s distance. My job is to just keep working."

In this age of social media, the significance of film critics has increased, eventually impacting a film's success. Akshay shared that ratings and opinions can often be purchased and turned in someone's favour. So, as an actor, Akshay only considers the reviews of some selected critics. Also, he is often unaffected by negativity after being in the industry for a long time. He said:
"It it is most welcoming when somebody valuable like a critic talks about it. I take it and value it. Being in the industry you have come to know who is a good critic and who is a bad one. We know there are things people buy out, stars you can buy out. Good critics when I read them. I take it."
