Akshay Kumar is one of the most commonly recognised stars in Bollywood. He has been making headlines for the past few months. The star, known for giving back-to-back hits at the box office, suddenly experienced a dry spell. His last string of films failed at the box office, which made netizens criticise the actor and point out different reasons for the debacle. In a new interview, Akshay Kumar revealed how even his industry friends began questioning his choice of films after a point.
Recently, Akshay Kumar sat down for a conversation with India Today for the promotions of his upcoming film, Khel Khel Mein. He opened up about his diverse choice of films, which has been a topic of debate after his constant flops at the box office. Akshay has always been open to work in a variety of films, particularly the ones addressing socially relevant issues. He did films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha based on the issue of open defecation, Pad Man, creating awareness around the issue of sanitary napkins and menstrual hygiene, and others on real-life incidents like Airlift, Mission Mangal and Mission Raniganj.

Akshay mentioned that several of his industry friends came ahead and questioned his choice of films. However, he mentioned he liked to do those movies and would continue to do so. He was quoted as saying:
"Somethings look so good and lovely that your heart would want to do it. Many people in the industry, including my friends and critics, have asked, 'Why do you have to make films on sanitary pads and toilets.' When I made a movie on sex education, a lot of people opposed me, 'sex's a bad thing to talk about.' But I like to do such movies and will keep doing them if given the opportunity."
During the trailer release event of his upcoming film, Khel Khel Mein, Akshay Kumar opened up on his back-to-back flops at the box office. He revealed that he received condolence messages from industry people, journalists, and more. However, the actor said he would continue to work on more films, and he isn't going anywhere. In his words:
"People send Bahut bura hua, don't worry, you'll be back. Main usko bolta hoon, gaya kaha hoon, yehi hoon, mara nahi hoon. Kaam karte rahunga. Humesha kaam karte rahunga.”
