Akshaye Khanna is hailed as one of those exceptional movie stars, who is known for captivating hearts by portraying simple characters. While Akshaye Khanna doesn't take up as many projects as he used to, his name is always taken with amazing celebrities. Not many know Akshaye Khanna followed in his father, Vinod Khanna's footsteps, but he never really wanted to share screen space with him after his first debut film, Himalaya Putra.
In times when people would be afraid to express what they truly feel, Akshaye Khanna always spoke his heart out. During an interview with the IANS in 2008, Akshaye shared that his father, Vinod Khanna is one of those actors with whom he should not work. He also added that the overpowering screen presence of the actors makes him believe that he should not be seen sharing the space with them on screen.

Akshaye Khanna added that when he had worked with his father, Vindor Khanna in his debut film, Himalaya Putra, it was a terrifying experience. He said:
"There are certain people whom you shouldn't work with. My dad is one of them. Amitabh Bachchan is another. To stand in the same frame as them confidently is impossible. They've such an overpowering screen presence. It's very difficult to match my father on screen. It's that quality - either you have it or you don't have it. Very frankly I don't have it. I just don't have that kind of presence. There're some actors who just wash you away on screen. My dad is one of them."
In a 2017 interview, Akshaye Khanna was questioned if he would ever play his father, Vindor Khanna's character in his biopic. The actor straight away said that it is not an option for him as he doesn't look even close to his father. He further added that he had never even thought about making a biopic as it is risky thing for an actor.
