Bollywood sensation, Alka Yagnik is leading the headlines currently as she announced the devasting news of being diagnosed with a rare sensory hearing loss. The singer, who has been missing in action for sometime now, announced the news on her social media handles and requested her fans to keep her in their prayers.
Taking to her IG handle, Alka penned a long note and revealed that it was after she walked out of a flight that she experienced her disability to hear anything. Breaking her silence after weeks, she wrote:
“A few weeks ago, as I walked out of a flight, I suddenly felt I was not able to hear anything. Having mustered some courage in the weeks following the episode, I want to break my silence now for all my friends and well wishers who have been asking me why I’m missing in action. It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack…This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unawares.”

In her long note, Alka also mentioned that she has still not come to terms with the news and also cautioned her colleagues to be aware of exposure to loud music. In her words:
“As I attempt to come to terms with it please keep me in your prayers. For my fans and young colleagues, I would add a word of caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones. One day, I wish to share the health perils of my professional life. With all your love and support I am hoping to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon. Your support and understanding will mean the world to me in this critical hour.”
Alka Yagnik is one of the most renowned names in the Bollywood playback industry. She started off her career in music at the age of 6, when she used to sing for Akashvani Radio in Calcutta. Thereafter, in 1980, she made her debut in playback singing for Hindi cinema with the movie, Payal Ki Jhankaar. However, it was her energetic performance in the 1988 film, Tezaab’s song, Ek Do Teen, which gave her unparalleled recognition.

Alka Yagnik has recorded around 2000 songs in over 16 languages in her melodious voice. Talking about her personal life, Alka is married to a Shillong-based businessman, Neeraj Kapoor, and the couple has a daughter named Syesha.
