On January 25, 2019, a film based on the life of Bal Keshav Thackeray, paternal uncle of Raj Thackeray and founder of the Shiv Sena party, was released nationwide. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who essayed the role of Balasaheb Thackeray in the film, was once asked in an interview about his opinion of Bal Thackeray and has it changed since he played his role. To which he replied, “I have never met him, but had read a few of his interviews. He’s always been controversial, that is a fact. But he was also one of those personalities that you could either hate or love. You could never ignore him.”
Nawazuddin further added, “You could say what you want about him, but when millions of workers lost their jobs in the mill strike, he worked for their welfare. A lot of things we see in practice now, he started. He encouraged the Marathi youth to be entrepreneurs. All these big hospitals we see, he gave land for that, built highways. We will show all these things in the film.”
In an interview earlier, Raj Thackeray revealed his son’s wedding details and shared that it will be a low-key affair with the presence of a few selected people from political, corporate and film circles. He had said, “Amit’s wedding, scheduled on January 27, will not be celebrated on a grand scale as I do not want to trouble the couple.”. Adding further, he said that if all party functionaries, social activists and politicos are invited, the guest list would reach to at least six lakh.
