Aishwarya Rai is one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood. Back in 2003, she had a terrifying accident while shooting for the film, Khakee, in Nashik with Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. It so happened that a stuntman, who was driving too fast, lost control and rammed the car into Aishwarya’s chair. The actress was caught off guard by the speeding vehicle and got so badly hurt that she was rushed to the hospital.
Amitabh Bachchan, who later became Aishwarya Rai’s father-in-law, was deeply upset with the manner the media portrayed the accident and downplayed her injury as trivial. During a conversation with Rediff, Big B spoke about the gravity of the situation and expressed his concern for Aishwarya’s well-being. He recalled the serious consequences of the accident and said:

“I asked Aishwarya’s mother if she wanted to take her daughter back to Mumbai. We organised Anil Ambani’s private plane. Since there is no night landing facility in Nashik, we had to take permission from Delhi to land the plane at the military base which is 45 minutes away from the hospital. The seats had to be removed from the aircraft. And everyone is brushing it off as a small incident blown out of proportion.”
The veteran actor also revealed how the accident and Aishwarya’s wounds impacted him. Talking about the same, he said that he couldn't sleep for two nights after he saw everything happening in front of his eyes. Amitabh Bachchan also elaborated on the brutal injuries that Aishwarya got and said:
“For two nights I couldn’t sleep. To see this happen in front of my eyes! Her back was lacerated with cactus thorns. The bone in the rear portion of her feet is broken. She suffered severe cuts. And her injury was reported as trivial.”
Aishwarya Rai broke many hearts when she tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan on April 20, 2007. After her grand wedding, the ever-so-gorgeous actress became the 'Bachchan Bahu'. Aishwarya and Abhishek embraced parenthood with the arrival of their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan. However, for some time now, it has been speculated that the couple might be heading for a divorce. Neither Aishwarya nor Abhishek have commented on it, but their frequent solo appearances hint at the troubles in their paradise.
Aishwarya Rai was once hailed as a doting bahu of the Bachchan family, and it was in no time that she became a vital part of the clan and completely gelled with them. Moreover, her father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, adored his bahu and often heaped praises on her. A proof of the same we witnessed in the season finale episode of Starry Nights 2.Oh!, when Big B was asked how the family dynamics changed after Abhishek and Aishwarya's wedding. To which, the loving sasurji said:
"Nothing has changed for us, it was like one daughter left and another one came in."
