Subhash Ghai’s Taal, starring the likes of Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, and Akshaye Khanna, recently celebrated 25 years of its release. The film’s team couldn’t let the milestone pass by without a commemoration so they reunited for an event in Mumbai. They spilled the beans on everything from the movie’s re-release to AR Rahman and Anand Bakshi’s communication struggles during the Radio Nasha event. Anil Kapoor, not to be outdone, had some secrets of his own to share.
While talking at the event, Anil Kapoor revealed that the thought of shooting one scene in particular made him extremely nervous. That scene was the film’s climax, where his character, ‘Vikrant’ shows up moments before Aishwarya’s character, ‘Mansi’ ties the knot with Akshaye’s character, ‘Manav’. ‘Vikrant’ urges ‘Mansi’ to stay with ‘Manav’, showing huge growth as he lets his love go once and for all.
Looking back at his time on the set, Anil revealed that director, Subhash Ghai frequently gave him lines at the last minute. So, he was naturally nervous for the challenging scene as its emotional impact needed to be perfect. Anil’s anxiety got so bad that he reached out to fellow actor, Padmini Kolhapure, and asked her to perform reiki on him. He said:
“I was so stressed, so anxious and nervous. She came, she did reiki on me.”
Anil’s nervousness continued to mount as Subhash had not given him the climax scene even by the night before the shooting was to happen. Finally, he decided that he wouldn’t show up on set at all. He recalled calling Subhash that night and revealed how the conversation went. He said:
“He knows me so well. He said, ‘Okay don’t come, I’ll wait anyway.’”
Anil then spoke about waking up the next morning with the same restless anxiety. He shared a conversation he had with his wife in which he said:

“I am not going. It’s a very long scene and he will give it at the last moment and I want to do my best”.
Anil Kapoor laughed as he revealed the sole reason he showed up to the set anyway. He was worried that Subhash would either pass on the scene to Akshaye or alter it to focus more on Aishwarya. He also said that when he finally did arrive at the set, he found a relaxed Subhash working on other parts of the film. Anil said:
“I reached at around 12:30-1 pm. He was relaxed. He knew I was going to come. He looked at me and said ‘Aa gaya? Chalo lunch karte hain, fir take karte hain (You’re here? Let’s have lunch and then let’s shoot.)’ And we finished the scene in two hours.”
