Eminent filmmaker, Anil Sharma created another masterpiece in his career with his latest release, Gadar 2. The film, which is a sequel to the 2001-released film, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha reprises the much-loved tale of ‘Tara Singh’ and ‘Sakeena’, portrayed by Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel respectively, against the backdrop of the partition. The film has already crossed the highest mark at the box-office, and has been receiving humongous love and support.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, filmmaker, Anil Sharma recollected various anecdotes from his blockbuster hit, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Speaking along the same lines, he vividly recalled a small misunderstanding that occurred between him and Ameesha Patel, when he signed the latter for the film. Anil mentioned that being a novice, merely a few films old actress, Ameesha appeared to be very uppity, especially since she came from a big family background. Nevertheless, he highlighted that Ameesha was a good-natured girl. In his words:

“Ameesha ji ka nature aise hi hai. Pichli Gadar ke dauraan unse meeting ke dauraan tu-tu-main-main ho gayi thi. Woh bade ghar ki bitiya hain, unke mizaaj thode bade hain, magar dil ki buri nahi hain, dil ki achi hain. Bade ghar ki beti jo hoti hai kabhi kabhi tunakmizaaji aa jaati hai. Hum log chote ghar ke log hain. Hum log pyaar mohabbat se rehte hain. Woh bhi rehti hain, but thoda sa attitude, ek adaa hai unme jo kabhi kabhi tedhi-medhi ho jaati hai, lekin insaan achi hain.”

In the same interview, Anil Sharma reacted to Ameesha Patel’s claims of not being paid her full for the Gadar 2.To this, the director emphasised that back in 2001, when he had casted Ameesha, she lacked in her acting capabilities, and that she was only roped in because she fit the bill for the look of the character. He revealed having given her six months of training to be well-suited for the role. In his words:
“For Sakeena, I wanted an actor with a face like the moon. But she was weak at acting. Another girl we’d shortlisted was a better actor, but Ameesha had the built-in personality of someone from an important family. I knew we would have to train her, and she agreed to undergo training for six months. She’d come to me for four or five hours, and somehow, I ingrained Sakeena’s personality in her, to the point that she is still inseparable from that character.”
In one of her previous social media revelations, Ameesha Patel had taken to the social media handle, X (formerly known as Twitter) and called out the production team of Anil Sharma for Gadar 2. The actress specified that several bills and dues of her, along with many others from the cast and crew of the film were left unpaid, especially for the schedule of the shooting that took place in Chandigarh.
