It is a sad time for Dhallywood, a.k.a the Bengali cinema industry, as Anjana Rahman, Bangladesh national-award-winning actress, passed away. She was 60 when she took her last breath at 1.10 AM on January 4, 2024. The news of her demise has sent a shock to the entire Bengali film fraternity. Her friends, family and loved ones are shocked. Now, a report by ETimes revealed that Anjana was undergoing medical treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.
A report by ETimes revealed that Anjana was sick for the past three weeks. Misha Sawdagor, the president of The Film Artistes’ Association, confirmed the tragic news with Prothom Alo. He revealed that in the remembrance of the actress Anjana’s Namaz-e-janaza will take place in her honour. Reportedly, the late actress had a mild fever, and her health had started deteriorating. Her condition had worsened and had reached a point where medicines did not work.
When Anjana was diagnosed, it was revealed that reportedly she had a blood infection, and she was then admitted to a private hospital. She was battling for her life in the ICU for many days. The actress tried her hard to survive, but the medical treatment given to her did not improve her state. On January 1, 2024, she was then shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital, where everyone thought her condition would improve. It deteriorated further, and then she was put on a ventilator on the night of January 1, 2024. Despite taking all the measures, she could not fight the battle.
The actress has left behind her two daughters and a son. Anjana had a long career in the filmy world and had acted in 300 movies not only in Bangladesh, but in 9 other countries. A report by Zee News revealed that the actress has worked in the movie languages of Pakistan, Nepal, Turkey, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. She had once claimed she was the only actress from Bangladesh who had done lead roles in different languages across 9 countries. The actress had acted with top actors of her time, few of them being Abdur Razzak, Alamgir, Jashim, Bulbul Ahmed, Zafar Iqbal, Ilias Javed and many more. The actress also acted with Bollywood veteran Mithun Chakraborty.
Anjana also won the Best Actress award in Bangladesh and the National Award for Parineeta, where she played the iconic role of 'Lolita'. She was earlier married to producer-director, Azizur Rahman Buli, who was known for his work in the Bangladeshi cinema. Reportedly, she had changed her name to Anjana Rahman because of her love for the eminent producer and director. Earlier, in an interview with a TV channel in Bangladesh, the actress had revealed that she was a Hindu and had said:
