Anurag Kashyap Gets Called Out For Praising 'Adolescence', After He Lauded Vanga For 'Animal'

Anurag Kashyap is not known to mince his words when expressing his views on anything. The filmmaker did the same when he shared his disapproval and frustration about the 'hypocrisy' of Netflix's top bosses while greenlighting content for the Indian market. He praised the film, Adolescence and stated that such content makes him jealous and envious.

Anurag Kashyap gets called out for praising Adolescence after he lauded Animal

Anurag Kashyap praised the film Adolescence and shared that he and other Indian filmmakers are not allowed to be so daring. However, netizens were quick to call out Anurag's own hypocrisy for lauding a film about the influence of incel content after praising Sandeep Reddy Vanga and his controversial film, Animal in the past. 

A post on X (formerly Twitter) shared a screen-grab of Anurag Kashyap's post for Animal filmmaker, Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The post called out Anurag for praising Adolescence, a movie that talks about the influence of incel content on young boys, after lauding Animal and Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The screenshot of the same was shared on the discussion platform, Reddit, and netizens were quick to share their views of the same.

A user penned, "Anurag Kashyap will call KRK the next big thing if it suits him. Look at his history with KJo. What an irrelevant, opportunistic douchebag." Another wrote, "Kashyap has always been an opportunist. Pehle kaam nahi tha toh BW kay khilaaf bolata tha. Jab mila toh chup baitha, upar se KWK kay episode mein jaake RGV ko taunt bhi maarke aaya. Firse jab kaam milna band ho gaya toh BW ko gaali dene laga hai." A user in a long note stated:

"I don't think anyone questioned Vanga's talent. The problem is what he endorses as a person. It's okay to show problematic characters on screen - but when you go ahead and justify the characters in real life - that's the real issue. So, I don't care if he is the second coming when it comes to talent. He needs to be called out on his problematic values."

Anurag Kashyap's post for Adolescence

Anurag Kashyap took to his Instagram handle on March 19, 2025, and shared a post commending the film, Adolescence. The filmmaker lauded the actors and makers for their phenomenal work. He also called out Netflix for not giving Indian filmmakers the opportunity to make such magnificent projects. A part of his note read:

"I am numb and envious and jealous that someone can go and make that. The amount of hard work that has gone into the show. I can’t even imagine the rehearsals and prep they did so that they could shoot every episode in a single shot. It’s better than any film or anything I’ve seen. It takes its time, but it is courageous in not missing a single nuance. Definitely not possible to pull it off without a great team and determination to pull it off."

Anurag Kashyap's praise for Sandeep Reddy Vanga

In January 2024, Anurag Kashyap shared his praise for Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He took to his Instagram handle and shared a series of pictures with the filmmaker. He called him the most misunderstood, judged, and reviled filmmaker. He further commended his film, Animal and in a long note penned:

"The most misunderstood, judged and reviled filmmaker at the moment. To me, he is the most honest, vulnerable and lovely person. I wanted to meet the man, and I had questions, and he answered everything I asked of him about his film that I actually saw twice. Thank you for being patient and being yourself. This is a person you can actually confront and talk to. Pls, talk to him about the problems you have with the film. 40 days since I first saw ANIMAL and 22 days since I saw it the second time. It has been the biggest game changer in Hindi cinema in a long time and a film whose impact (good or bad) can’t be denied. And the filmmaker who takes it all on his chin."
